Preschool Lotto Games

Lotto games can teach recognition of images, numbers, words and feelings to preschool students.

Lotto games are perfect for teaching recognition of images, numbers, words and feelings to preschool students. Lotto games are played just like bingo, but the cards show pictures instead of numbers and the students can use pennies, dried beans or buttons as their markers. The games can be played as often as you like, while changing the theme to coincide with the seasons, curriculum or special occasions. Prizes are optional, but they are a nice reward for playing these enriching and fun games.

Picture Lotto

One very common lotto game is played exactly like bingo, but with pictures on the cards in place of numbers. There are many examples of these cards available online to print. Otherwise, you may want to make a selection of about 30 illustrations printed in 2-by-2-inch squares. Try to find pictures from storybooks that students enjoy or based on themes that you have talked about in class. Students can then make their own cards by choosing 16 different images and pasting them neatly into rows of 4 by 4. To play any of the games that follow, remember that each student has one playing board and some pennies or buttons to cover the squares as you call out the pictures.

Numbers and Counting

To teach preschoolers to recognize numbers, fill each box on the lotto cards with numbers, 1 through 16 or 1 through 25. Whether the cards are generated by computer or students make their own, the numbers should be big, simple and legible. Another option is to focus on counting by filling each square on the boards with combinations of items -- three bananas, six ants, one tree. Or each square could have one ladybug with different numbers of spots on each.

Shapes and Colors

To teach both shapes and colors, use a combination of both on the squares of the card. To get students involved, print out the cards with just shapes in each square and allow students some time to color the shapes. Stick to primary colors for simplicity. To be clear, there can be more than one of the same shape on the board, but each one must be a different color.

Advanced Lotto Cards

Classes that have regular lotto game sessions should be able to move on to more advanced games later in the year. Combine each image that was used throughout the year and generate cards that are one extra row larger, horizontally and vertically. Use each image at least once throughout the cards. Combine all of the decks of flashcards or plastic balls that have been used to call out the bingo items. The game can also be modified to require students to complete different winning formations on their board. Examples can include two complete rows, all four corners, the entire outside box or a corner-to-corner "X" to win.

Things To Do In Kailua Hawaii

What is there to do in Kailua, Hawaii?

Kailua, Hawaii, offers a wide range of activities for visitors and residents alike. For the more outdoorsy, there are some of the best beaches in the world, with beautiful views and activities like surfing, boogie boarding and kayaking. For others, there are several museums and galleries that might be of interest. Indeed, there's probably something for everyone in Kailua.

Lanikai

Lanikai Beach in Kailua is considered by many Hawaiians to be the best beach for swimming anywhere in the island state. The water is blue and clear, the view is spectacular (including two small offshore islands), and the wide beach is covered in famously soft sand. The beach is also clean. So consider grabbing a beach towel, some sunscreen and your swimming suit and heading over to one of the best beaches in America.

Kayaking

One of the most popular things to do while in Kailua is to grab a kayak and hit the bay. Especially recommended is the water off Kailua Beach, home to large sea turtles and beautiful coral reefs. In addition to kayaking, there's windsurfing, boogie boarding, paddling, snorkeling and scuba diving. The truth is, visiting Kailua and not exploring the surrounding ocean, some way or another, would probably be a shame.

Barbie Dolls, Anyone?

Kailua is home to one of the most comprehensive collections of Barbie dolls anywhere on the planet. Aside from Barbie dolls, the Hawaii Loves Barbie Dolls Museum is home to a wide range of other doll and toy collections, including G.I. Joe figures, Qupie dolls and Madame Alexander dolls. One of the best parts about it is that viewing the entire collection is absolutely free.

Rankin Gallery

If art is your thing, consider visiting Kailua's Rankin Gallery. The Rankin Gallery houses artwork created by local artists, showcasing native talent. The gallery itself is housed in a restored plantation building, located right on Kailua's main street. Check the gallery's calendar, since the Ranking Gallery regularly organizes special events and exhibits.

Traditional British Games For Children

Skipping rope is a great way for children to stay fit.

Many traditional games played by British children are still being playing today in schools and at home. Traditional playground games help children interact with each other and develop social skills. It also develops a sense of imagination that some say cannot be found in more modern games involving the television. Getting children outside to play traditional games gets them out of the house and actively engages them in physical activity, helping to develop healthy physical habits and fight against childhood obesity.

Conker

A conker is a seed that falls from the horse chestnut tree. It is threaded with tough string, and players take turns hitting conkers. The opponent chooses the height to hold the conker and then has three tries to hit it by dangling their conker and swinging it with the free hand. The players take turns hitting each other's conkers until one of them is destroyed. Points are based on the number of destroyed conkers.

Hopscotch

Squares are vertically drawn onto a sidewalk with chalk, usually with a single square then double square. They are numbered one through 10. Players toss a rock onto the first square without missing it or landing on a line. The player then hops onto the squares with only one foot in each square. The square with the rock in it is skipped over. If the player makes it to the end without being disqualified, he turns around, comes back, and tosses the rock onto the second square.

London Bridge

Two children hold hands and form an arch to represent the bridge and then the "London Bridge" song is sung. The other children hold on to the shirt of the person in front of them and chain-walk under the bridge repeatedly until the last verse is sung. The two people forming the bridge will then lower their arms to capture the children still under the bridge. The captured children are led to one of two predetermined spot to be prisons. Once all are captured, the two prisons of children play a game of tug-of-war.

Skipping

In Britain, skipping is what Americans call jump roping. Tricks are performed such as the Can-Can and the Double-Dutch. In the Can-Can, the child jumps on their left foot as they raise their right knee. A 2-foot jump is made, landing on the left foot while kicking their right leg. The Double-Dutch requires the use of two skipping ropes that are swung by two children while a third child skips the ropes. Sometimes children keep jumping in one place or jump in and out of the ropes to show more difficult moves.

Refinancing Inherited Homes

Inherited property is like any other property you own, provided you have legal proof the title is in your name. You can refinance or sell the property at any time. If the property is your primary residence, you will be able to borrow more than if it is a second home or a rental property. Check with the title company to be sure you have clear title to the home. If it is in probate, you may have to wait for some time before you can borrow against it.

Inherited Homes

Inherited homes may have an existing mortgage or they may be free and clear. Any new loan would pay off any existing lien, and the new mortgage would be in your name. If the title company finds any other encumbrances recorded against the property, the escrow company will pay them from the proceeds of the new loan.

Refinancing

If the property is owner occupied, you can borrow up to 80 percent of the appraised value. If it is a second home, the amount you can borrow depends on the lender you select. Some will loan up to 80 percent, but others will limit you to 70 percent. Of course, you will need to meet all the other lender requirements. If you will be using the home as a rental property, your loan amount will probably be limited to 70 percent of the appraised value.

Qualifications

Qualifying for a mortgage loan requires good credit, good job stability and equity in the property. Most lenders require a credit score of 720 or higher, verification that you worked for the same employer for two years or more, and that you have a minimum of a two month cash reserve. You may need to prove that you have a six month cash reserve if the property will not be owner occupied. In addition, an appraisal will have to show that the property is in good condition.

Considerations

If you decide to take cash out of the property instead of selling it, be sure you will be able to pay the mortgage payments, property taxes and insurance. If you plan to rent the home, be sure that you thoroughly check out any perspective tenants. This is especially true if you do not live near the home. Think carefully about whether you want to take on a property owner's responsibilities or if you would prefer to sell the home instead.

Snorkel Trips To Molokini Hawaii

Snorkel in the Pacific Ocean.

Approximately 2.5 miles off the Maui coastline lies the clear blue waters around Molokini, a partially-sunken volcanic crater. Tourists flock to the area to boat, dive and snorkel in the waters, which are designated a Hawaii State Marine Life and Bird Conservation District, and are home to over 250 species of fish. According to Molokini.com, there are six companies that offer snorkel trips to the crater.

Kai Kanani Sailing

Kai Kanani Sailing offers both express and deluxe snorkel tours of Molokini. Both leave from the Makena Beach and Golf Resort. A marine naturalist is on the tours to answer any questions. The deluxe tour lasts for four hours and includes local tap beers, continental breakfast, deli lunch, snorkel instruction and gear. The express tour leaves at 6:30 a.m. and lasts for two hours, including a breakfast and snorkel gear and instructions.

Pride of Maui

Pride of Maui offers morning trips to Molokini, departing from Maalaea Harbor. The trip lasts for five hours, during which guests have access to 2,500-square-feet of space on the 65-foot boat. Included in the cost of the trip are professional snorkel gear, optical masks, flotation devices, breakfast, a hot lunch on the grill and access to an open bar.

Trilogy

Trilogy offers a snorkeling trip to Molokini on a sailboat and sets a passenger limit so guests can enjoy the waters without the crowds. Two trips depart each day and include a breakfast of homemade cinnamon rolls, barbecue chicken lunch, snorkeling equipment and personalized instructions. Wetsuits are also included. Trip check-in is at Buzz's Warf.

Pacific Whale Foundation

The Pacific Whale Foundation offers three Molokini snorkel trips, all of which depart from Maalaea. The Eco Express snorkel leaves in the morning and lasts for 3.5 hours, providing an economical option. Traditional Hawaiian Wedding Attire

If you and your fiance plan on having your wedding in Hawaii, or want to have a ceremony with a Hawaiian theme, it's important to know how you should dress for your big day. Traditional attire for Hawaiian weddings helps to bring out the beautiful scenery that will be a part of your wedding.

Holoku

The holoku is a formal version of the muumuu, and is worn by the bride for Hawaiian wedding ceremonies. Holoku dresses are flowy, long and white, and look great in beachfront wedding pictures, as they blow slightly in the wind.

Haku Lei

Instead of a veil, the bride wears a haku lei in her hair for the wedding, which is a wreath of brightly colored island flowers. The bride can choose the colors she wants to include in the haku lei.

Groom's Attire

Grooms wear all white to Hawaiian weddings-a long-sleeved shirt and drawstring or linen pants are a common ensemble. The groom also wears a sash of flowers around his waist. This sash is either red or multicolored.

Leis

Leis, or elaborate necklaces made of flowers or shells, are exchanged by the bride and groom at the wedding ceremony. The couple place the leis around each others' necks to complete their wedding attire, as a symbol of their eternal love for one another.

Fashionable Flowers

It is also acceptable to have the bridesmaids or female wedding guests wear flowers in their hair. If the flower is worn on the right, it means the woman is single; when the flower is worn on her left side, this is the symbol that she is "taken" or married.

Travel Activities To Do While On Big Island Hawaii

The Big Island is the birthplace of King Kamehaha the Great.

On the Big Island of Hawaii you can stand at the southernmost tip of the United States or at the peak of the world's tallest mountain and volcano. On the same day, you can drink a cup of freshly brewed, world-famous Kona coffee while relaxing on the lanai of a coffee plantation, or hike the rim of one of the most active volcanoes on earth. The Big Island of Hawaii, the youngest of the eight main islands in the chain, is a haven for adventurers and history buffs.

City of Refuge

In ancient Hawaii, there were strict kapus, or laws. When a commoner broke a kapu, he was chased down and put to death, unless he could reach a puuhonua, or place of refuge, and receive absolution from a kahuna. Situated on the Kona coast, about 20 miles south of Kailua-Kona, lies one of the most well preserved of these refuges, Pu'uhonua o Honaunau, also known as the City of Refuge. History buffs will enjoy this archaeological site where you can watch canoes being crafted in the ancient tradition and view royal fishponds and petroglyphs. Hikers can use the trail, dating back to 1871, to view ancient temple and home sites. Even if you don't plan on hiking, sturdy walking shoes are recommended. It can get quite warm in Honaunau so be prepared with hats and sunscreen. The entrance fee in 2010 is $5.00 per vehicle. If arriving on foot or bicycle, the entrance fee is $3.00 per person.

Volcanoes

The lava is flowing at Kilauea.

The Hawaiian Islands were formed as the result of volcanic action on the ocean floor. Each island has at least one volcano and the Big Island has five, including the largest volcano in the world, Mauna Loa, and one of the most active volcanoes on earth, Kilauea. In fact, Kilauea has been steadily erupting since 1983. Madame Pele, the goddess of Hawaii's volcanoes puts on a spectacular pyrotechnics show that any visit to the Big Island should include. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park offers views of the volcano, as well as both past and current eruptions. Tours are designed according to how much time visitors wish to spend exploring the area, either by car or on foot. Be aware that because the volcano is currently erupting, the gaseous fumes may be harmful to those with respiratory disease, children and pregnant women. Kilauea is located 98 miles from Kailua-Kona and 30 miles southwest of Hilo.

Sport Fishing

It can take several hours to fight and land a huge billfish.

For over 50 years, anglers from around the globe have flocked to Kailua-Kona for the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament. What most anglers seek, whether it's tournament or sport fishing, is the Pacific blue marlin. Marlin, as well as mahi mahi, and ahi, or tuna, thrive in the deep, warm waters off the Kona coast, and charter fishing boats are available to get you into the action. This is not an inexpensive activity, as the cost of a full-day, exclusive charter costs upwards of $750, depending upon the boat. You can economize by booking a half day charter, for under $600 or sharing the charter with others and the price comes down to $100 to $200 per person. All prices quoted are as of 2010. For people who thrive on adrenaline rushes, sport fishing in Kona is a must.

Things To Do In South Maui

South Maui offers tourists a number of fun and relaxing excursions.

The southwest coast of Maui offers the driest, sunniest area on the island. The area offers a number of great opportunities for whale watching and snorkeling. Whether you are an adventurist or just want a relaxing Hawaiian vacation, Maui offers a resort-styled community with miles of sandy beaches.

McGregor Point Lighthouse

McGregor Point Lookout offers visitors a vantage point for watching humpback whales from land. Located off Highway 30, just west of Ma'alaea, the lighthouse offers great views of the ocean. The best times to head out to the lighthouse are in the early morning or early evening if you want to see the whales. The best viewing months for humpback whale-watching is from mid-December until mid-April. There are no restroom facilities on site and a rocky coastline surrounds the lighthouse.

Ko'ie'ie Fishpond

While many fishponds in South Maui are privately owned, the Maui Ko'ie'ie is accessible to the public. At one time, fish in the Ko'ie'ie fishpond grew over three feet long. The Ko'ie'ie sits adjacent to the Kalepolepo park. When visiting this fishpond, guests can play in the ocean, walk the shoreline, snorkel and fish. The fishpond provides a shallow depth and a large protective wall surrounds the area. Visitors should not walk on the rock walls, which can shift and collapse.

Big Beach - Makena

The Big Beach is located in the Makena State Park. The beach is undeveloped and lacks the large crowds of more popular beaches. The Big Beach is two-thirds a mile long and open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. Clouds rest over Big Beach most afternoons, keeping the area cooler and more comfortable. The beach is located at the end of State Route 31. While the beach is unattended, the area does include porta-potties and picnic tables. Dining choices while spending a day at Big Beach include carts with fish tacos, pineapples and shaved ice.

Snorkling is allowed at the beach and green sea turtles and dolphins frequent the waters. The area is also good for whale watching from the months of December through April. Visitors who enjoy body boarding should beware of shore breaks, which can drop boarders onto the beach from up to six feet in the air.

La Perouse Bay

Lava from South Maui's most recent volcano created the La Perouse Bay, located at the end of Makena Alanui Road, 7 miles south of Wailea. The bay presents great snorkeling when the ocean is calm but strong winds can make the water choppy, and usually pick up in late afternoons. The area provides no lifeguards and there are also no restroom facilities. The coastline is rocky and dolphins frequent the area.

Rainforest Party Food Ideas

Match the menu to your rainforest theme party.

Take your friends on a safari without ever leaving your backyard. Invite them over for a rainforest themed party. Pass out leis, grass skirts and sun block. Don't forget to plan a menu of tropical food that is sure to please. Bring the rainforest flavor to the table for all of the party animals to enjoy. Does this Spark an idea?

Snake Cake

Bake two cakes in bundt pans in whatever flavor you like. Once they are cool, cut both of the cakes in half so you have four pieces. Arrange the pieces end to end but facing different directions. This will help make the cake look more like a snake. Cover with green icing. Use small round candies for spots and red licorice for a tongue. For a larger party, make more bundt cakes. You can also make multiple snake cakes in this style for your party.

Rotisserie Chicken

Pick up rotisserie chicken or any meat you prefer from you local grocery store. If you have a rotisserie, you can even make your own. Cut the meat into medium chunks and pile it high on a plate. The more meat you have the bigger animal you can claim you hunted down.

Fruit Salad

Cut up tropical fruits such as mango, bananas, oranges and papaya. Place all of the fruit in a bowl and mix well. Let it sit in the fridge until your guests arrive. Place the bowl on top of a bed of ice in a larger bowl. This will keep the fruit cold during the party. Make more than one batch of fruit salad and leave it in a fridge to serve later. For a nice display, halve a large watermelon and remove the fruit without breaking the rind. Mix the watermelon with the other fruits and add them back into the watermelon rind.

Kabob Bar

Fire up the grill and set up a kabob bar. Cut up veggies and meat such as pork and tomatoes. Pineapple and mango also work well on the grill. Marinade the meat in tropical-inspired marinade found at your local grocery store, such as jerk or lime flavor, before your guests arrive. Set up the meat, veggies, fruit and kabob sticks on a table and let you guest put together their own kabobs.

Making Birthday Invitation Cards

Making your own birthday invitation cards will add a special touch to your party.

Throwing a birthday party for someone can be a lot of fun-especially if you make your own invitations. The invitation is the first thing that your guests will see, so making a homemade card can leave a lasting impression. Keep your invitations simple and to the point. Your guests will remember more details if you just stick to the basic information such as the date, time and place of the party. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Gather all of the information that you will want to include in your invitation card and double check to be sure you haven't left out any pertinent details.

2. Purchase good quality card stock and envelopes to craft your invitations and write them out yourself for a more personal touch. Add embellishments to decorate your cards such as stickers, glitter and ribbon.

3. Review your guest list more than once to be sure that you have included everyone.

4. Include the date, time and location of the party and add a respond-by date with a contact person and phone number. This will help in giving you an idea of many people to expect when purchasing your food and drinks.

5. Mail the invitation cards three to four weeks prior to the party to give you and your guests enough time to plan for the celebration.

Organic Tomato Seeds

Organic tomatoes come in all sizes and shapes

Tomatoes are the most common vegetable grown in home gardens. Many home gardeners choose organic tomato seeds that are certified by the United States Department of Agriculture National Organic Program. The USDA Certified Organic label ensures that the tomato seeds come from chemical-free soil with non-toxic, pest- and disease-management techniques. Organically grown tomato seeds also are not subjected to genetically modified materials (GMOs) in production, cleaning, storage or shipping. Traditional seed companies, as well as specialty tomato seed companies, sell organic tomato seeds. Does this Spark an idea?

Organic Black Krim tomato seeds germinate in six to eight days when the temperature is above 55 degrees F. Black Krim tomatoes are a prolific producer that come to harvest in 90 days.

Paul Robeson

The Paul Robeson tomato is another dusky-deep, purple-red variety with deep, full flavor and a sweet-to-acid taste balance. Organic Paul Robeson tomato seeds germinate in 19 days and mature on an indeterminate growing vine after 75 days. Indeterminate vines continue to grow until the first autumn frost.

German Queen

German Queen is an organic beefsteak tomato with firm, red flesh and a sweet, rich flavor. It is a good slicing tomato. It grows on erect, indeterminate vines and has a potato-like leaf. Organic tomato seeds are easily saved for the next spring planting. A ripe tomato half is put into a small amount of water for a few days to separate seeds from pulp. Dry seeds are then labeled in envelopes and saved for next year's planting. German Queen tomato seeds germinate in 10 days and mature in 85.

Zapotec

This unusual tomato originated with the Zapotec people of southern Mexico. It is deeply pleated in shape and pink to dark-red in color. Zapotec has a rich, earthy flavor. It is available from specialty heirloom tomato growers. Home garden organic tomato growers use mature compost to ensure the rich, well-draining soil that tomatoes prefer. Organic Zapotec tomato seeds germinate in eight days and mature in 80.

Tropical Cake Decorating Ideas

There are many delicious and colorful tropical cake decorating ideas you can do with everyday items. When you think about tropical icons and images, you can imagine vast Hawaiian coastlines, lush tropical forests and colorful sunsets. By visiting your florist, supermarket or dollar store, you will be able to find many items to decorate a tropical cake. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Icing Colors

Consider using bright cheery tropical colors such as lime green, pink, turquoise and lemon yellow for the main icing of the cake. These happy colors will evoke the flora typical of the islands.

Flowers

Visit your local florist or flower section of the supermarket to find live tropical flowers to place on and around the cake. Flowers such as orchids can be arranged around the base of the cake and also around the top rim of the cake. Larger flowers like bird of paradise or hibiscus can also be arranged around the cake. Wash palm fronds and arrange them around the base of the cake to serve as a green background for the colorful flowers.

Coconuts

Buy freshly grated coconut and scatter all over the iced cake. This will give it a fluffy and angelic look. You can even purchase real coconuts to arrange around the base of the cake.

Dollar Store Trinkets

You can go to a dollar store and find many tropical trinkets for your cake. Items such as drink umbrellas, mini palm trees and fake flowers can usually be found. Walk the aisles to find different ideas for inspiration.

Cake Decorating Supply Stores

If you like to craft a more detailed cake, you can use supplies from a cake decorating supply shop. There are palm tree cake forms and palm tree patterns you can use to design your own tropical cake. Ice the palm fronds green and the trunk brown. You can also find fish-shaped pans as well as pineapple-shaped cake pans you can decorate with colored icing. These stores also sell specialty toppers and candles in the shape of tropical themed items like hula girls and coral reef fish.

Wood Carving Tools For Slit Drums

Slit drum carvers commonly hollow out entire logs through a small simple slit.

Slit drums constitute one of the oldest percussive instruments, according to the Percussive Arts Society, an online resource for percussion information. Slit drums allow several tribes in various parts of the world to converse with "talking drums," states Helix Music Education Resources, an online multicultural instrument educator. Slit drums exist as simple functional instruments and large ornate conversational and dance drums. Slit drum carving often requires more tools in our advanced society than those which natives use.

Drill Bits

Many slit drum wood carvers utilize several sizes of drill bits to aid in speedy carving. Slit drums need not look pretty inside or outside, but most ornate drums focus appeal strictly to exterior surfaces, concentrating on tone only when removing inner wood. Drill bits allow for easy removal in several long hollows easily chiseled out in large sections following drilling. Slit drums typically involve removing a slit in a log surface, then hollowing out interior spaces in varying thicknesses to yield multiple percussive tones. Drill bits enter from the slit in a variety of directions to easily remove material in several planes within the solid wood.

Chisels and Mallets

Woodcarvers should use carpenter's mallets and chisels to punch out weakened material left after drilling opens up large areas within the log. Drum carvers should remember that wood pieces removed must fit through drum slits or else they will rattle within the drum permanently. Slowly and methodically removing small pieces of weakened wood allows for easy removal of loose wood without the need to carve within a carving to whittle pieces small enough to extricate from the drum slit. Once large interior portions of the log are opened into tone-producing cavities, chisels and mallets allow for rough finish work. Woodworkers looking to create beautiful and functional pieces may decide to carve motifs or clean interiors using sharp woodcarving knives.

Woodcarving Knives

Woodcarving knives provide a woodcarver with detail-creating instruments capable of intricate finish work. Using curved blades to clean and finish rough interior chisel work will result in attractive smooth interiors producing bright tones, while carving a variety of external motifs can change large and small logs alike into fantastic shapes. African slit drums often take the form of large mammals such as buffalo, states Helix Music Education Resources. Aztec artisans often produced ornate hardwood drums fashioned after alligators. Chinese Buddhist slit drums can take the form of a mythical fish with a red lacquer finish.

Party Ideas For A Girl'S 14th Birthday

No shortage of good party ideas exist for a 14-year-old's birthday.

Many party ideas exist for a girl's 14th birthday. Let your daughter decide which idea sounds most appealing. Depending on her social circle, she may be more inclined to pick one party idea over another. All but the slumber party idea could include boys, with no potential problems. Does this Spark an idea?

Boy-Girl

Many 14-year-olds host their first boy-girl party at home. The party should have adult supervision, though as a parent, you may assume a behind-the-scenes role, providing snacks and food. Common activities include dancing and a chance to eat and talk. These parties are less formal, and may not include any gift giving.

Sleepover

A sleepover party gives the girls a chance to watch movies, play games and talk about their favorite crushes. The party can begin in the early evening with dinner such as pizza and then continue throughout the night. Your daughter should lead the party, but you should establish clear rules on when they need to transition to talking or quiet games so your household can sleep. In the morning, serve breakfast.

Scavenger Hunt

A scavenger hunt party can take place at home, in your neighborhood, at a nearby park or at the mall. You can have them collect items or photos using a digital camera or a camera phone. Make a list of items they need to collect and set a time limit so they will return at a specified hour. The first one back with the most items on the list wins. After the scavenger hunt, serve pizza, cake and ice cream. This party requires little cleanup and most of the party will take place outside your home, thus alleviating stress on your family.

Dinner Out

Ask your daughter to pick her favorite fancy restaurant, and invite a small group of friends to eat dinner together. This is a fun idea for a girl ready to be more grown up. Accompany your daughter and her friends to the restaurant, but ask for seating at a separate table. This allows you to be on hand and pay for the tab while allowing the girls to feel independent and grown up.

The Best Sunny Places To Vacation In December

The Best Sunny Places to Vacation in December

Depending on where you live, December can be a cold, dreary month, with chances of snow, hail and ice storms. There are parts of the world where the sun shines in December, though, affording those who live in colder climates the opportunity to get away to a warm and sunny environment. Some of the best sunny places to vacation in December can be found in the United States, in exotic foreign countries and on beautiful tropical islands around the world.

In the U.S.

When you think sunny places in December, Florida immediately comes to mind. Disney World in Orlando is a busy place in December because it offers warmth, as well as a taste of the holiday spirit throughout its theme parks. But other parts of Florida are just as warm and inviting, and a little less crowded. Sanibel Island, Fort Myers Beach, Naples, Venice and other areas along Florida's Gulf Coast offer vacationers warm, sunny beaches, crystal clear water and plenty of attractions to explore.

Beyond Florida, the desert areas of Arizona are among the best sunny places to vacation in December. They have boundless warm sunshine and plenty of things to see and do. The warm places to stay in Arizona are Scottsdale and Phoenix, where daytime temperatures in December hover around 75 to 80 degrees. While there, enjoy their health spas, nature walks, and a round of golf on world championship courses. The Grand Canyon is just a day-trip away.

Outside the U.S.

December means summer in some parts of the world. Such is the case in Australia and New Zealand, which have delightfully warm temperatures at that time of year. Sydney is a popular destination in Australia, as is Brisbane with its renowned beaches, theme parks and active nightlife. New Zealand is also noted for its spectacular beaches along its picturesque coastline.

Africa is another place where it's summer in December. Some of the best beach resorts in the world can be found in parts of Africa, including Diani, Malindi, Lamu and Mombasa in Kenya and Zanzibar in Tanzania.

It's warm in Dubai in the Middle East in December, with daytime temperatures ranging from 77 to 95 degrees. Jumeirah Beach, Aquaventure and Wild Wadi water theme parks, spas, professional golf courses and shopping are some of the popular vacation activities in this city in the United Arab Emirates. Dubai is also known for its snorkeling, sailing and kayaking.

Other top sunny places to vacation in December include Acapulco, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas in Mexico; Rio de Janeiro in Brazil; and the beaches of Costa Rica.

The Islands

An island paradise guarantees a sunny vacation spot in December. Hawaii has ideal temperatures year-round. The islands in the Caribbean also offer the ideal climate for sun and fun.

December in the Galapagos Islands and Barbados means sunny weather with daytime temperatures between 70 and 80 degrees. Other islands to consider for sun in December are the Canary Islands, Belize and the gorgeous beaches of Trinidad and Tobago.

Pool Party Activities For Teens

Provide entertaining pool party games and activities for your teen's next pool party. Create structured games to encourage positive interaction and keep the swim party under control. Offer plenty of sunscreen and towels for your guests and stop any aggressive play or foul language. Always have adult supervision during any pool party to ensure the guests' safety. Does this Spark an idea?

Drive In Movie Pool Party

Bring the drive-in to your backyard and let the kids watch their favorite movie poolside. Purchase several comfortable floats with drink holders for the kids to lounge on while they watch the movie.

Show the movie using a projection screen on the side of your house. For a screen, hang a queen- or king-sized white bed sheet on the side of the house. Grab your portable DVD player, a projector and a digital audio player to create your outdoor theater. Connect the DVD player to your projector to project the video and to the digital audio player for sound. Position the system on a table approximately 10 or 15 feet away from the screen.

Raft Relay Races

See how fast teams of teens can paddle across your pool and back on a raft. Purchase two rafts of the same size and four plastic paddles. Divide your guests into teams of two and ask the guests to stand in a line at one end of the pool.

The first teen in line sits on the float and has to paddle across the pool to the other side, turn around, come back and tag the next team member. The next team member hops on the raft and races to the other side and back. The first team whose final member gets to the finish line first wins the race.

Water Limbo

Play a quirky calypso CD while teens see how low they can limbo underwater. Water limbo is played just like limbo on land but players have to dip under the bar while submerged under water.

Use a long plastic pole and have two teens hold each end. Play limbo in shallow water so everyone can touch the bottom. Start the game with the limbo stick one foot above the water's surface. Teens line up and have to walk underneath the limbo stick. They can't touch the stick and must bend backward to get underneath.

Outdoor Birthday Games For Kids' Parties

Playing outdoor games will keep the birthday mess out of your house.

Whether your birthday party is in your backyard or at a park, these party games are sure to get the kids moving and having fun. When the weather is perfect, these outdoor party games will go with any themed party. Place the cake and presents on a table outdoors and let the kids enjoy some outdoor games. Does this Spark an idea?

Pop the Puzzle

You will need large balloons and enough puzzles for two or more teams. Buy puzzles that have 10 to 20 small pieces (make sure to buy all the same puzzle for fairness). Before you blow up the balloons, place one puzzle piece inside each balloon and keep those balloons together. Repeat the steps for the next puzzle and make sure to keep each set of balloons separate. If you have two teams, put the two sets of balloons about 30 feet from the teams in separate piles. When someone says, "go," one team member races to his pile and pops a balloon using his hands, bottom or feet. The teammate retrieves the puzzle piece and races it back to his team, tagging the next person in line. That person will do the same and return tagging the next person in line until all puzzle pieces are retrieved. Once the team has all of its puzzle pieces, it can work on putting it together. The team that puts its puzzle together first wins the game. Have the children stand around a hard table or flat surface so it is easier for them to put the puzzles together.

Pass the Hula Hoop

Have children stand in a circle and hold hands. An adult will place two hula hoops in the circle by detaching the hands of four children. The object of the game is for the children to get each hula hoop all the way around the circle without letting go of their hands. If you have enough children to make two circles, you can use one hula hoop for each circle and make it a race to see which circle gets its hula hoop around the fastest.

Happy Birthday Game

Play this game just like the old-fashioned game of Marco Polo. Play the game on land or in the water. Select one child to be "it" and blindfold him. Designate a play area in the backyard. Players cannot run outside of this area. The "it" person will yell "happy" and the other children must yell "birthday." The "it" child will have to find and tag another child by listening to where their voice is coming from. Once he finds someone and tags him, that person will become the new "it."

Lock Picking Tools

Lock picking requires the right tools and a lot of patience to master.

While picking locks on property that is not your own is illegal, several jobs do call for legal lock picking services. These include used car salesmen, professional locksmiths and a handful of other professions. Choosing the right tools makes these jobs easier.

Types

Lock picking for basic locks typically requires two main tools: a tension wrench and the lock pick. Lock picks are available in many different sizes and shapes to ensure the user will always have one for different size locks.

Function

The lock pick pushes the pins inside the lock up and out of the way so the door can open. The tension wrench applies constant pressure on the lock so that as each pin is pushed up it doesn't slide back down and lock again.

Kits

Many times a professional will buy a lock picking kit. Not only does this include a tension wrench, but often a variety of high-quality lock picks are included. When starting out, a person may choose to buy only one tension wrench and lock pick to work with.

Availability

Many stores only sell lock picking kits to professionals such as those working in the automotive industry or locksmiths. These professionals are legally allowed to get into abandoned vehicles in their custody or to open a lock for a driver who has lost his key.

Alternatives

Those who are only interested in practicing lock picking on their own house as a hobby may create their own tension wrench and lock pick instead of purchasing a kit. Typically a paperclip or other thin piece of metal is used to accomplish this.

What Is A Temperate Rainforest

Temperate rainforests are not as hot as rainforests found near the equator.

There are two types of rainforests on earth: the tropical rainforest, and the temperate rainforest. Most people think of the tropical type at the mention of rainforests. Temperate rainforests are much different from the tropical kind found around the equator. They offer a broad biodiversity for visitors to explore and enjoy.

Climate

One of the main indicators of a temperate rainforest is the climate, with precipitation levels reaching 80 to 140 inches each year in temperate regions. Some regions can get almost 200 inches. The annual average temperature for a temperate rainforest is between 32 degrees and 68 degrees Fahrenheit, with some areas reaching 80 degrees during the summer. The cool nature of temperate forests is the result of neighboring oceans holding down the temperature and increasing the amount of precipitation. The precipitation comes as both snow and rain, with snow being most likely at higher elevations.

Areas of Growth

Temperate rainforests are not widely distributed around the world. This type of forest grows mainly from northern California to southern Alaska. There are also a few, small temperate rainforests in southern Chile, New Zealand and Australia. This type of forest typically grows only in areas where warm, oceanic water has the ability to control climates inland.

Plants

Some of the most common plant forms found in a temperate rainforest are large, coniferous trees. Some examples of coniferous trees include Douglas firs, western red cedars, mountain hemlocks and lodgepole pines. Deciduous trees, such as maple trees, are seen in the warmer areas of these forests. A temperate rainforest is also heavily populated with moss and lichens, which are able to survive because the moist climate allows plants without roots to grow easily. Temperate rainforests are also filled with shrubbery. When walking through the forest, you can find blackberries, salmonberries, mushrooms and redwood sorrel.

Animals

Common forest animals such as deer, bears and coyotes are found in temperate rainforests. However, this type of rainforest is also heavily populated with slugs and unique birds such as the blue grouse and Clark's nutcracker. Other animals that can be found are red tree vole, porcupines, rabbits, mice, mountain lions and great horned owls. Most animals that live in the temperate regions have adapted to winter by going into hibernation during the coldest months of the year.

Themed Luncheon Ideas

A themed luncheon is ideal for a bridal or baby shower, a gathering of friends or even a child's birthday party. Add interest and charm to your party by including themed decorations, place settings and centerpieces. You will also find that lunch is less costly and less labor intensive to prepare, even for a larger group. Plan several courses to allow everyone plenty of time to relax and socialize. You can serve a themed luncheon as a plated meal or a self-serve buffet. Does this Spark an idea?

A Southern Luncheon

A Southern style luncheon is ideal for a more formal or casual afternoon. Choose your luncheon menu based on the formality of your planned gathering. Fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, a simple iceberg wedge salad and slices of fresh berry or peach pie will work well for a casual meal, served inside or out. Make your Southern luncheon more formal by serving curried chicken salad tea sandwiches, ham biscuits, freshly steamed asparagus and green beans, and a variety of cookies and cakes for dessert (see references below).

An Italian Feast

Italian food is easy to prepare, familiar and can make an ideal themed luncheon menu. Choose lighter selections for lunch. Consider a delicate tomato or broth-based soup followed by pasta primavera and tiramisu for a spring or summer meal. Winter is better suited to heavier meals. Consider a baked pasta dish, a large salad and a sampling of winter fruits for a cold-weather Italian lunch. Serve sparkling prosecco or prosecco cocktails and espresso to finish your Italian luncheon.

Seasonal Luncheon Themes

Seasonal themes are one of the most versatile choices for nearly any occasion. Focus on foods that are local and in season. Plan a spring menu around asparagus, fresh baby greens and early spring berries. Add bouquets of fresh flowers to dress your table. Summer menus might feature corn, tomatoes and peaches along with sunflowers, gerbera daisies, zinnias or other bright and hardy flowers. Choose winter squash, apples and nuts for an autumn meal. Decorate your table with gourds and chrysanthemums. Winter meals should include rich foods, cream sauces, slow-roasted meats with root vegetables. Use forced bulbs, greenery or crystal to dress your table.

What To Wear To A Graduation Party

When planning what to wear to a graduation party, it may be a bit nerve-wracking. Not only do you want to look your best, but you also want to go along with the stipulations of the party, whether it is a theme or dress code. With careful consideration, you can choose the perfect outfit that reflects your style and blends perfectly with the party.

Weather

The weather is important to consider when choosing an outfit for a graduation party. If it is cold, you may want to wear a shawl or a cardigan to go over your outfit. If the weather is hot, stay away from fabrics, such as satin, that could make you feel warmer. Wear something that will keep you cool without showing too much skin.

Color

You can choose the color of your outfit depending on the location of the party. If the party is on or near the beach, opt for neutral colors. If the graduation party has a color theme--for example, all white--then you should stick to the appropriate theme. If the party is in a general location, such as a hall or in a home and there is no theme, any color is appropriate.

Dress Code

Almost every invitation you get for a party will mention a dress code. It is important to adhere to the dress code to show respect for the host, the location of the party and so that you will not stick out. If it is a formal graduation party, for a female, you should go with a long dress. If it is semi-formal, a long or mid-calf dress would be fitting, and for semi-casual, a knee-length or longer dress would work well. For a male needing to wear semi-formal to formal attire, you should wear a blazer, button-down shirt and tie. You can always remove pieces later. For semi-casual, a button-down shirt is appropriate. For a casual party, whether you are male or female, almost anything goes.

Comfort

Whatever you wear to the graduation party, it is important that you are extremely comfortable. If you are tense or feel that you do not look right, it will show on your face. Before you buy your outfit for the graduation party, make sure to try it on and check that it fits properly.

Style

When choosing an outfit for a graduation party, choose something that shows off your style. Even if you have to adhere to some guidelines, such as a dress code or a specific color theme, choose an outfit that you love and you know you will make you feel good.

Wording For A Sweet 16 Birthday Party Invitation

Wording on party invitations is key to setting the right tone for the event.

One of the first things you should do toward successfully planning a memorable Sweet 16 party is to create interesting invitations. The way you word your birthday invitations, as well as their overall appearance, can influence party attendance. Writing birthday invitations effectively will set the tone for the party. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Allude to the theme of your party right away, as well as the fact that it is a 16th birthday party. For instance, if you are having an island-themed party, you might want to write something like, "Join us on the sandy shores of Hawaii for Karen's Sweet 16 party!"

2. Include the birthday girl's first and last name in the primary section of the invitation. If you print, "Join us for Susan's Sweet 16," your guests could be confused about which Susan is celebrating her birthday, as mixing up names can be a common mistake in a teenager's social circle that may include many friends and acquaintances.

3. Add a brief poem or saying about turning 16. This can help to stress the importance of this particular birthday. For instance, try something like, "She's not the same little girl...She's really making a scene...Our sweet Susan is a young woman now, she's turning sweet 16!"

4. Include the details of the party in a way that matches the overall theme. Think of a presentation that will be attractive to teenagers. For instance, if you are having a party that features a live band, you might want to use invitations that look like tickets. When speaking of the party's time and place, you could use a phrase like, "Main Event Location and Time."

5. Include a phrase that asks guests to please "R.S.V.P." When entertaining teenagers, apart from needing to know how much food and drink to prepare, you'll also need to know how many chaperones you will need for crowd control.

Monkey Birthday Party Decorating Ideas

Throw her a monkey birthday party she'll love.

Monkeys are the perfect theme for a child's birthday party, especially children who love jungle animals or are fans of Curious George. It's easy to play monkey games (peel bananas with your feet), and no monkey party is complete without foods based around bananas. To make the party complete, however, monkey and jungle decorations are a must. Does this Spark an idea?

Vines and Trees

Turn your indoor room into a jungle by creating vines and banana trees out of construction paper. Use crumpled up brown paper for the trunks of the trees, and create wide banana leaves out of green construction paper. Attach the trunks to the wall with sticky tack, which will come off the wall without damaging it. Attach the leaves to top of the trunk with double-sided tape, or to the wall or ceiling with more sticky tack. Dangle pieces of crepe paper from the ceiling to mimic vines. Attach real or construction-paper bananas in bunches to the trees. Don't forget to perch a stuffed or paper monkey in each tree.

Monkey Face Garland

Welcome your birthday party guests with a garland made from monkey faces. Use paper plates and construction paper to create simple faces, and use a black marker to write a letter on the front of each "face". Attach the faces to a string with a stapler or tape. The faces could spell out a message such as "Happy Birthday", or they could simply spell out the birthday boy or girl's name. Drape the garland across the doorway, front porch or the birthday gift or food table.

Monkey Prints

Set the stage for fun by placing "monkey prints" on the floor. These can be outdoors or indoors. Monkey footprints look very much like a human hand, but with an elongated palm and a thumb that is shorter and almost at a right angle to the palm. Create a set to guide your guests to the front door, or place a trail of prints leading from the game area to the food table. Make the prints out of construction paper, or use brown and black chalk if you are drawing them directly on cement.

Ears and Tails

Don't forget to decorate your guests. The children will love to dress up as monkeys and do a little "monkeying around." Give them each a headband with monkey ears attached. (Make them ahead of time out of construction paper, or do this at the party as a craft activity). Extend the monkey business by also pinning a construction-paper monkey tail on each child.

The Best Luau Decorations For Tent

Urns filled with palm fronds and several hibiscus flowers may be placed at the tent's entrance for a tropical look.

Luaus are a fun, festive way to celebrate any special occasion. They are typically held outdoors to capture an authentic feel, but inclement weather can put a damper on the party. Using a tent for your luau ensures that your guests can enjoy themselves no matter what the weather. Decorating a tent for a luau may be somewhat challenging, but a little creativity can go a long way in creating a fun, tropical atmosphere for your Hawaiian-inspired party. Does this Spark an idea?

Tables

If you are using a tent for your luau party, set up tables inside so guests have a place to eat and talk. Instead of traditional tablecloths, use grass skirts or straw mats to circle or cover the tables. Fabrics with bold Hawaiian prints are another option. Pineapple and other fresh fruits, such as coconuts, mangoes, kiwis and oranges, can make attractive natural centerpieces, particularly if they are decoratively cut. Laying palm fronds or calla lily leaves beneath the fruit adds to the look. Consider sprinkling table surfaces with confetti in luau-themed shapes such as palm trees, tropical fish or flamingos. Seashells also add a fun feel to tabletops. For a more unique look, fill decorative glass bowls with river rocks or tea lights for centerpieces. Bowls filled with colored water and floating tea lights can be used to truly set the mood.

Lighting

Lighting is an important element in luau decorating, but when using a tent, you may need to make adjustments. Tiki torches are traditionally used at luaus, but they can be dangerous when used inside or near a tent. Instead, opt for brightly colored paper lanterns that meet the luau theme. They can be hung from the poles in the tent's ceiling or along the sides of the tent. Use lanterns in different shapes and sizes to create a distinctive look. White or multicolored string lights can be wound around the poles for a fun touch. Some stores sell plastic lights in shapes that fit the luau theme, such as palm trees or pineapples, which are another festive option.

Flowers

For a truly authentic feel, use tropical flowers to decorate the tent. If your budget allows for it, get fresh flowers from the local florist. Hibiscus or orchids in large urns with palm fronds can serve as statement pieces at the entrance of the tent. Birds of paradise, anthurium or red ginger are bold and colorful, so they may be scattered throughout the tent for bright accents. For those on a budget, fresh carnations can be used to provide a colorful look while being easy on the wallet. Plastic leis may be wrapped around the tent's poles for a fun look as well.

Things To Do In Hawaiian Village

With over 20 acres of grounds, you could spend your entire Hawaiian vacation without leaving the Hilton Hawaiian Village on Waikiki Beach.

The resort makes sure there is plenty to do for all ages. Purchasing activities in blocks may be a more economical way to go; either book your activities before you arrive, or ask the concierge for help once you get there.

Pools

Aside from the vast expanse of the soft, white Waikiki Beach sand nearby, the Village offers six swimming pools and one saltwater lagoon for its guests.

The Duke Kahanamoku saltwater lagoon, located at the rear of the resort, is perfect for young children and has a view of the ocean just beyond it. A pump system keeps the water clean. Here, surf instructors offer a brief class and lecture on the history of surfing, free to guests.

The Super Pool has water slides, a huge swimming area and a nearby bar.

The Keiki Pool is a Super Pool offshoot and is designed for keiki, or kids, with shallow water.

The Tapa Pool has refreshment stands nearby and is recommended for night swimming.

Additionally, the Village offers private or group surfing lessons.

The Best Tomato Plants For North Carolina

Grandpa saved seed from only the best tomato to pass down through the years.

Heirloom tomatoes have found their way into North Carolina gardens. Heirlooms exude flavors and textures seldom found in today's modern varieties. When flavor, rather than storage and shipping quality, was the most important component in a tomato, gardeners saved the seed of their very best tomato for next year's crop. After generations of selecting and passing down seeds, heirloom varieties are producing the very best tasting tomatoes. With average high temperatures in July ranging from 80 to 96 degrees Fahrenheit across the state and a long growing season, every family should enjoy these heat loving heirloom tomatoes, available at choice North Carolina nurseries. Does this Spark an idea?

Heavy Weight Heirlooms

The heirloom tomato Mortgage Lifter, Grampa Charlie's produces an abundance of 1 to 2 pound fruits. Developed by M. C. Byles (Radiator Charlie) who grew the tomato and sold them for $1 apiece, he managed to pay off his mortgage from the sales, according to Tomatofest.com.

Anna Russian produces heart-shaped, juicy fruit weighing in at 1 pound and originally hails from Russia.

An heirloom with its roots in North Carolina and Virginia is German Johnson. It sports large round tomatoes with very few seeds, again in the large 1-pound size.

Heirloom Pastes

Choose an heirloom paste tomato for the best tasting sauce.

With heirloom's history of being the very best tasting tomato, when a paste type tomato is grown, it should be an heirloom. Passed down from southern Italy, Principe Borghese is a 2-inch-long plum tomato. It bears heavily and is excellent for drying or sauces. A paste tomato descending from Poland is Opalka, producing a heavy crop of sweet plum-shaped fruit 4 to 6 inches long. North Carolina gardeners enjoy eating these fresh, as well as cooking them up into a sauce.

Cherry Heirloom

The Pennsylvania Dutch grew and passed down the cherry tomato Riesentraube since the 1850s. It is a German heirloom that grows clusters of 20 to 40 small oval tomatoes that have the taste of a large beefsteak.

A yellow cherry tomato widely grown is Dr. Carolyn. It produces clumps of six sweet fruits on large plants. Both thrive on the hot patios of North Carolina now.

Odd Colored Heirloom

Some heirloom varieties are sweet and ripe when their color is green.

Noir de Crimee is a purple-black tomato of Russian descent. It produces a high yield of sweet fruit in the 6-ounce size.

Yellow Perfection provides an abundance of small, yellow, 2-ounce juicy tomatoes. This one comes from a British history line and has also found its niche in North Carolina.

A delicious sweet tomato that is bright green when it's fully ripe is Aunt Ruby's German Green. Passed down from a German family, it produces large beefsteak size fruit.

Sponge Bob Decorating Ideas

If your child is a huge fan of the popular cartoon character SpongeBob and his friends from Bikini bottom, decorating her bedroom or bathroom with a SpongeBob theme can make a huge splash. The room can be completely encompassed in the theme or include a few detailed items to convey the theme, yet not allow SpongeBob to take the room completely over. Does this Spark an idea?

Walls

Paint the walls yellow or blue, or create a glimpse into Bikini Bottom -- SpongeBob's home -- by painting a mural or hanging a pre-decorated mural. Murals can be as simple as sky blue on top and ocean blue on bottom or as detailed as depicting SpongeBob's pineapple-shaped home and some of his closest friends, such as Sandy, Patrick and his pet snail Gary. Use peel-and-stick decals to create a mural if you can't paint or want to update the room's decor without repainting in the future.

Frame posters or pictures of SpongeBob and his friends to hang on solid-colored walls if you'd rather not go the mural route. Install floating shelves to display a collection of SpongeBob stuffed animals, games, toys or figures. Consider hanging fishing net with a rustic-looking anchor or ship wheel on one wall to create a room that feels like it's a part of Bikini Bottom.

Furniture

Simple furniture, such as plain white or natural, rustic-looking wood, is best for a busy and bright theme like SpongeBob. Some rooms, such as bathrooms, won't require any furniture. Another option is to use SpongeBob-themed furniture if the walls are a solid color. There are bright yellow headboards available that look just like the character and elevated toy boxes that look like SpongeBob's pants and legs.

Linens

Bright yellow or blue towels work just as well as towels that depict the SpongeBob character in a bathroom. Pair the towels with matching bath rugs and a shower curtain that features water bubbles or SpongeBob.

Opt for bedding that complements the walls in a bedroom. Use a solid blue or yellow comforter if the walls are busy with a mural or a colorful cover with images of SpongeBob if the walls aren't overly decorated. Use window treatments in the same color as the walls if you want them to blend into the background. Choose a color or pattern that complements the bedding if you're unsure of what to use on the windows.

Accessories

Accessories can complete the room or serve as the only themed items in the room if you want to be able to update the decor without spending a lot of time or money. For example, use a SpongeBob-themed garbage can, tissue box and bath toys in the bathroom. Use a SpongeBob lamp, nightlight, drawer knobs, light switch cover, rug, pillows and electronics to accessorize a SpongeBob bedroom.

Palm Tree Wedding Koozie Ideas

Beer koozies sheild the beverage from warming from your hands.

For an island or tropical themed wedding, palm trees can serve as a centerpiece in the wedding decor. They can also be used to enhance the wedding favors given to guests. A can koozie is a soft holding device for a canned beverage that prevents the warmth of your hands from warming the can and likewise the beverage. By decorating koozies to resemble palm trees, you make them festive enough to be used as a fun and useful wedding favor.

Island Scene

Using a plain, blue koozie, create a classic island scene with a palm tree as the center point. Cut a piece of brown felt in a semi-circle shape, with the flat end flush with the bottom of the koozie. This will form the island. It should take up roughly a third of the length of the koozie. Cut a palm tree trunk out of tan felt and glue it so it overlaps about half way up the island. Finally cut out green felt palm tree leaves and dark brown felt coconuts and glue them in place on the koozie.

Tree Koozie

In this version of the palm tree koozie, the koozie itself becomes the tree trunk. Choose a brown colored and otherwise plain koozie as your starting canvas. Cut long, green palm tree leaves out of felt, about four to six inches long, and glue the non-pointed edges to the inner, top rim of the koozie. Attach palm tree leaves until them encircle the entire rim of the koozie. The leaves will flop out and hang over the outside of the koozie, encircling the can once it is inserted.

Stickers

Stickers allow you to accessorize and decorate ordinary items, such as a plain koozie in a simple and cost effective manner. Choose bright, tropical colors for the koozies, such as orange, yellow or pink. Apply stickers that depict palm trees all over the koozies. Scatter in stickers of tropical and colorful flowers over the koozie as well. Incorporate other beach themed elements, such as beach umbrella stickers or surf boards, as well.

Cut-Out

In lieu of adding something to transform the ordinary koozie into a palm tree themed koozie, take something away instead. Use a palm tree shaped stencil to draw the outline of a palm tree onto the outside of the koozie. Using a pair of sharp scissors or an craft knife, trim away the outline leaving a gap in the shape of a palm tree. When the can is inserted into the koozie, the can will show through the cut-out, highlighting the silhouette of the palm tree.
