Pony Parties For Children

Children will enjoy a western pony party.

If you have a child who loves riding ponies, consider throwing her a pony party. Companies will bring the ponies to you, or you can go to them. The children can ride a horse-led pony or ride ponies attached to a carousel. Some companies provide a cart-pulled pony ride for children fearful of riding a horse. Some companies even decorate their ponies to complement your party theme. When you're looking for a company to provide the best pony party service, ask several questions before signing a contract. Does this Spark an idea?

Location

Many mobile pony party companies exist. The company will bring the ponies to your home or park, for instance. Check with your home owners association or the city zoning department, if necessary, to determine if ponies are permitted in your potential party location. Special permits may be needed. You may prefer to have your party at a location that hosts pony parties -- such as a farm, ranch or entertainment center. Regardless of the location, make sure the company has full liability insurance for wherever the party is held.

Staff

Before hiring or choosing a company, make certain the company is licenced to provide pony riding services. Also, ask about the credentials and qualifications of specific staff members who will be assisting at your party. Make sure a staff member will walk beside the pony while the child is riding. Ask questions about staff members' training and preparation to handle accidents or emergency situations with the children and animals.

Helmets

Find out if certified safety helmets are provided for children to wear while riding the ponies. The Equestrian Medical Safety Association (EMSA) "strongly recommends the wearing of a properly fitted ASTM/SEI certified equestrian helmet with the harness secured during equestrian activities," according to the American Riding Instructor Association. "Head injuries account for approximately 60% of deaths resulting from equestrian accidents," states the EMSA. To help protect your guests from head injuries and fatal accidents, choose a company that uses proper helmets.

Clean Hands

Make sure soap and water are available for children to clean their hands after riding the ponies. If these aren't available, find out if they have hand sanitizer available. An adult or older child can be responsible for making sure children wash their hands before eating or drinking any refreshments. Some companies even include having children wash their hands before they eat in their contracts. Also, ask if cleaning stations are available for mobile parties.
