It is also home to the largest collection of endangered species in any national park, according to the National Park Service. The park offers numerous hiking opportunities, even allowing you to hike into the volcano's crater. According to Lonely Planet, the best time to visit the park is in the morning as the clouds covering the volcano tend to get thicker in the afternoon.

Malu'aka Beach

Maui is full of beaches, most of which are free. One highlight is Malu'aka Beach, also known as "Turtle Beach." Located near the Maui Prince Hotel, this is a popular destination to rent a kayak or put on some snorkeling gear and check out the numerous sea turtles in the area, according to Lonely Planet. About 100 yards off the shore is a coral reef that provides food for the turtles. This is a popular destination, but the turtles don't seem fazed by the presence of people. The beach is equipped with plenty of parking as well as public bathroom and showers if you need to clean off after snorkeling.
