Wording For 40th Birthday Party Invitations

Wording for 40th Birthday Party Invitations

Milestone birthdays call for special acknowledgement. A 40th birthday party invitation lends itself to creative wording. Some people are more emotional than others over turning the big "4-0." Try to be sensitive to this fact and avoid, "Over the Hill"-themed parties and wording referring to being old. Getting the wording right for an invitation requires a little preparation time. Spend some time writing out lists of possibilities before coming up with the final invitation. It is also helpful to have someone else take a look at it before sending it to be sure the details are correct. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Consider the personality of the birthday person before deciding upon the angle for the wording of her 40th birthday party invitation. Is she dreading this date? Is she sarcastic, funny or shy? It can also be helpful to think of the birthday person's hobbies and interests. You can use a play on words regarding her profession or favorite things.

2. Make a list of words or phrases that relate to your friend. From there, add some rhyming words or phrases. Use a rhyming dictionary and thesaurus to come up with more possibilities. Brainstorm inside jokes to make the invite more personal.

3. Write out the party details. Even if you are sending a witty invitation to friends and family members of the birthday person, include his name, age, place and time for the party, including directions, if necessary, and any other relevant information such as what guests should bring.

4. Choose rhyming phrases or write your final poem to include on the 40th birthday party invitation. You can try "4-0" rhymed with "Oh no!" or "Lordy, she's forty." A surprise 40th birthday party poem could be something like this:

"An awesome party is planned

& you are invited to show.

But don't tell the Birthday Girl,

because she doesn't know!"

5. Put both the party facts and the customized wording together on a card. If you are using a blank card, the rhyme can go on the outside with the details clearly outlined inside. A one-page invitation can be made with a single piece of card stock with both the personalized phrase and the details one after the other.
