Travel Party Ideas

A tropical location party works well outdoors at a pool.

Travel offers many themes for a party. Theme parties can not only call for a particular menu, but they also provide a different atmosphere than that of a regular party. When you choose your party theme, check what's available in your area. For example, during the summer you will find more tropical-themed party items. Does this Spark an idea?

Altering Games

Alter existing party games to have a travel theme. By altering existing games, the players already know the basic rules of the games. It also requires less work. For example, one easy game to alter is charades. Use travel-related phrases to act out. Examples of these phrases include packing, flying, sunbathing and surfing. Games with ambiguous categories work best, meaning games where you create exact what you do. These included "Pictionary," "Who Am I" and "Where Am I." You can use a general travel theme or base it on a certain location.

Travel-Theme Party

Throw a party based on the idea of traveling. Incorporate forms of traveling into each detail of the planning. For example, make the invitations look like plane tickets. Arrange pieces of luggage as decorations. If you don't want to use a plane theme, try out a train or car. Maps, signs and pictures all works as effective decorations. Use this party theme as a going-away party or a summer theme.

Destinations

Hundreds of fun, exotic travel destinations exist. Utilize one of the destinations as a theme for the party. For example, try Paris, France. Play French music, serve authentic foods and hang pictures of famous monuments. You could use an Eiffel Tower model as the centerpiece for the food table. Serve real Champagne. Another theme to try is a tropical island theme. Most party supply stores carry items for that type of party throughout the year.

Around the World

Host an "Around the World" party, the ultimate trip. Split up a room into different sections. Decorate each section like a different country. Serve food from four or five countries. Try to incorporate a variety of countries. For example, feature Mexico, Peru, Ireland, Italy, India, Korea and Australia. It also helps, to make sure there's at least one item everyone will like, to serve a dish people are familiar with.
