Vegan Cruises

Chefs on popular cruise lines may prepare special vegan meals for guests.

Vegan-friendly cruises travel all over the world, through oceans and rivers, exotic and serene. Both small and large ships are available, and even more popular cruises provide vegan options to guests. A few of these cruises incorporate ecotourism as part of their philosophy and prepare organic entrees according to guest's specifications.

Holistic Holiday

A Taste of Health by Costa Cruise Lines offers a cruise called Holistic Holiday at Sea. The cruise travels the western Caribbean on the MSC Poesia. The menu comprises natural foods and beverages prepared by chefs that are specially made organic. The cruise combines relaxation with a learning experience, in which passengers learn from health professionals, vegan and macrobiotic chefs, yoga and

Pilates instructors, and research scientists about live more healthy. The Holistic Holiday at Sea also offers individual counseling and treatments on the cruise.

Maple Leaf Adventures

Maple Leaf Adventures offers a smaller cruise that focuses on ecotourism and vegan-friendly food. The cruises last multiple days and travel along the British Columbia and Alaska coast with historians, naturalists, chefs and crew. The tours venture to the Great Bear Rainforest and Queen Charlotte Islands as well, where passengers view wildlife and exotic nature. Sushi platters as well as other vegan-friendly dishes come with the cruise. Maple Leaf Adventures also trains youths in Canada to sail their ship every year in a life skills training course.

Sanctuary Retreats

Sanctuary Retreats offers more intimate cruises that explore different parts of the world such as the Nile in Egypt, around the Galapagos Islands and near the Three Gorges in China. Chefs on the cruises prepare meals according to the guest's dietary restrictions and provide a very ecofriendly community awareness experience. Sanctuary Retreats has a policy of conservation and responsible tourism, which ensures that their ships run modern sewage disposal systems and recycling programs.

Vegan Menus

Major cruise lines, such as Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian, provide vegan-friendly options on their menu and also prepare vegan entrees when requested in advance by guests. Several cruise lines also allow guests to request items from the chef while on board the ship, which allows passengers to create multiple vegan meals. In other cases, guests speak to a "coordinator" beforehand to arrange vegan options. If you plan on traveling with a mainstream cruise line, call beforehand to inquire about their vegan menu options.
