Party Favor Making Ideas

Save money by making your own party favors.

Homemade party favors give your event a personalized touch. Handmade favors can help you cut costs, and many require very few materials to make. Choose a party favor that is relevant to your parties themes and incorporate your event's colors, as well. Does this Spark an idea?

Decorative Jars

You can make decorative jars and fill them with various things to give as centerpieces. Take an empty jar and fill it with potpourri, sand, colored macaroni, coffee beans or homemade jam. You can then cover the jar with a piece of cloth slightly bigger than the top of the jar. Tie the cloth onto the jar's rim with a colored ribbon, raffia or strip of lace.

Edible

Edible favors can easily be made in large quantities. Consider favors like cookies, mini cupcakes, brownies or fudge. Decorate the favors with your event's colors and place them in beautiful boxes. If you choose to give an edible favor, it is important that the presentation is done tastefully. Use a decorative box and wrap it with ribbon that matches your event's colors.

Recipe Cards

If you're throwing a cooking party, recipe cards can be an easy party favor fitted to your event. Write down the recipes of each aspect of your meal. Punch holes in the top left corner of each card and tie them together with a metal ring so that your guests can save the cards and easily flip through them. Decorate the menu cards with bold colors.

Something That Grows

You can give your guests a gift that grows. By taking a small terra cotta pot and filling it with dirt, you can plant flower seeds for your guests and wrap the pots in pretty cloth bags. Let your guests know that with the proper care, their favors will grow into beautiful flowers. Consider hand-painting the pots for an even more personalized touch.

Floral Teacup

For bridal showers, baby showers for girls or women's parties, floral teacups are delicate and tasteful favors. Use tiny, antique teacups and fill them with silk or real flowers. Consider using roses by cutting off the stem and only placing the flower inside. Use about three flowers per teacup.
