Whether your guests are office co-workers, schoolmates or neighborhood friends, a number of theme ideas are available that will turn your entertaining space into a snow-filled wonderland everyone can enjoy. Winter Snow Ball
If you are in charge of an elegant party or formal school dance, turn the space into a winter "snow ball." Rent an artificial snow machine that will drop delicate snowflakes from the air. Most machines allow you to choose the size of flake and how heavy or light you want to make the snowfall. Dangle glass icicles from the ceiling and door frames. Decorate the space with cool blue lights. If you want guests to take pictures in their suits and dresses, either rent or design an ice palace backdrop with arches and statues.
English Village
A unique idea is to turn your entertaining space into a quaint village that could be found in a Charles Dickens story. Draw lampposts on large sheets of paper, cut them out and paste them on the walls. Along with the snow machine, scatter swaths of cotton on the floor so guests can feel like they're walking on snow. Make a village mural with a general store, blacksmith and horse and carriage. If you want guests to dress the part, ask the men to wear top hats and old suits. Women can don Victorian lace dresses.
Peppermint Park
If your event is geared toward children, consider making an outdoor park filled with snow and sweet treats. Draw or purchase a mural with a shiny lake and snow-capped mountains. Cut out large peppermint shapes, gumdrops and candy canes and stick them on the walls. Make a large snow mound with your cotton so children can play together. Scatter real candy on the floor or hide pieces so the children can go on a scavenger hunt. Since the setting is an outdoor park, everyone can dress casual.
