Surfboard Crafts For Kids

Sur boards are painted with bright colors and patterns.

Whether your child is planning a surfing-themed party, making items for a surfing-themed room, or just wants to be reminded of summer, surfboard crafts are a colorful, fun way to brighten up the day. The simple shape of a surfboard makes quick and effective results achievable even for young kids.

Party Invitations

Involve your child in planning a surfing party by having him help make the invitations. Draw surfboard shapes on thick, white card stock and ask your child to cut them out using safety scissors. Have your child decorate one side of the card with colored marker pens, using whatever colors or patterns he chooses. Hawaiian-style flowers -- hibiscus -- are effective. Print the details of the party on the other side of the card with a black marker pen.

Picture Frame

Draw two matching surfboard shapes on thick, white card stock. Ask your child to cut them out using safety scissors. Help her to cut one or two square windows in one of the pieces of card. Have her decorate each surfboard shape by painting or drawing a pattern on one side. Place favorite photos behind the windows. Stick the two pieces of card together with tacky glue, with the decorated sides facing outwards. Prop on a shelf to display.

Driftwood Mobile

Gather driftwood and shells from the beach. Draw six surfboard shapes on thick, white card stock and ask your child to cut them out with safety scissors and decorate them on both sides. Use a hole punch to make a hole in each board at one end. Use a large piece of driftwood as a frame. Help him to tie small pieces of wood, shells and the surfboards onto the driftwood using clear thread or fishing line, then hang the mobile up in his room to remind him of summer.

Necklace

Show your child make brightly-colored surfboard-shaped beads using air-dry modeling clay. Have her roll small pieces of clay into oval shapes then press them flat, tapering each end. Make holes in the beads for her at one end with a metal skewer. Leave them to dry. Have her thread plain beads onto a thin strip of leather, spacing the surfboard-shaped beads between them. Finish by tying the leather in a loose knot.
