Secret Things To Do In Maui

For those who value privacy over social times with strangers, Maui is the most private and quiet of the major Hawaiian tourist destinations. For some visitors, however, even the seclusion of Maui as compared to Oahu is not the guarantee of privacy that they seek. There are some private things to do on Maui for those looking for a more secretive vacation.

Ka'eleku Caverns

Three hours from Lahaina, near the town of Hana, are some of the most spectacular lava caves in the world: Ka'eleku Caverns. Open Monday through Saturday and sometimes Sundays, the caverns offer self-guided tours free of bats and mosquitoes. For those not prone to trust the land under the ground, the cavern site also boasts the only Red Ti Garden Maze in the world, a perfect place to play, or steal a kiss with a lover.

Kula Botanical Garden

Kula Botanical Garden in "Up Country" Maui, near the town of Pukalani, is a garden lover's delight. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the lush 8 acres of exotic plant life complete with information on each of the hundreds of types of plants shown. Children will enjoy the garden's chameleon exhibit, and various birds of the garden's aviary. Family-owned and operated since 1968, the garden hosts thousands of visitors per year and yet still offers seclusion for those seeking a quiet day "away from it all."

Take a Hike

Maui is a hiker's paradise. With waterfalls and lush fauna and endless trails, there is little on Maui more secretive than the places you discover yourself. Bring a picnic lunch, a good book, and that special someone and make a day of it. Make sure you stay on or near the beaten path, but know that "beaten path" takes on a whole different definition when you are speaking of Maui. When hiking on Maui, remember the most important rule of visiting nature: Take all of your trash with you when you leave.

Maui's Variety

Unlike other destinations where you have to search to find secrecy, Maui makes secrecy easy. For example, in a single day you can shop in the bustling seaport town of Lahaina and then enjoy a quiet swim in a mountain stream.
