Luau Reception Ideas

Scatter orchids around your reception site.

A luau is a Hawaiian feast. It can bring the spirit of the Hawaiian islands into your wedding reception venue. With lots of brightly colored food, authentic music and sweet smelling flowers, your guests will feel like they are partying on the beach. It will be a reception they will remember for years to come.

Hula and Fire Dancers

Hire hula or fire dancers in authentic outfits to either put a hula show on or mingle with guests and offer short lessons. You can also consider having an authentic floor show as entertainment. This will consist of drummers, fire throwers and hula dancers, which will be sure to delight your guests.

Fresh Lei Favors

Give each of your guests a fresh lei flown in from Hawaii. Choose flowers in your wedding colors or ones that complement them. Consider giving guests of honor a special color or double lei. Leis are quite expensive, so if you don't want to use fresh leis, there are many artificial leis that look quite real and come in colors that fresh flowers don't.

Cuisine

Choose to serve authentic cuisine at your reception. Have a pig roasting at the beginning of your reception so that guests can see it. Have plenty of fruit available for appetizers and have a chocolate fountain for dipping for a special touch.

Decorations

Scatter orchids and hibiscus around your tables. If you are having an outdoor reception, put tiki torches around your dance floor. Have a palm tree and flowers set up in front of a beach backdrop and have a photographer take pictures of your guests. Mail a copy of the picture to them when you mail out your thank-you cards.
