Unique Sweet 16 Themes For Girls

Choosing a special theme for her sixteenth birthday party will create a day to remember.

Most teen girls dream about turning 16. It's an important year, where a girl may receive her driver's license and certain important privileges are rewarded. At times, a 16th birthday can seem almost as important as a wedding. Choosing a special theme to base the party around creates a special time the special girl in your life will never forget. Does this Spark an idea?

Specific Decade Party

Choose a favorite decade for your party theme. For the fifties throw a sock-hop. Invite everyone to wear poodle skirts and dance to jive-style music. Serve milkshakes, burgers and fries, and hold a hula hoop contest. For the sixties have a hippie-style party; for the seventies throw a disco bash. Ask guests to wear parachute pants and faux mohawks for an eighties theme. Find record covers at a second hand store that match the decade and hang them from the walls or ceilings. Create serving trays or place settings out of old records.

Candy Lane

It may seem like a theme without variety, but candy is a versatile medium. Choose to go with an elegant slant or a simple, fun direction. Decorate tables with pink tablecloths and glass bowls of white marshmallows. Create a confection table with mints, candy sticks, jelly beans and other beautiful candies in glass vases and trifle dishes. For more of a fun approach, hang Candy Land boards on the walls for decorations. Fill vases with multi-colored gumballs and use them for centerpieces. Hand out novelty candies, candy shaped cushions or containers to guests for favors. Or allow them to fill small celephane bags with goodies to take home.

Seasonal Party

A party based on the season simplifies finding appropriate decorations and supplies, since most stores will have them readily available. For spring, choose soft pastels or woodland colors and decorate with flowers and butterflies. For summer, throw a beach party or luau. For autumn, go with a Halloween or fall theme. In the wintertime, create a winter wonderland with glittery snowflakes and jars of peppermint sticks. For even more of a twist, hold a party based on the season that is opposite of the current month.

Specific Movie or Television Show

Research her favorite movie or television show for party ideas. Throw a party based on her favorite reality show. If she likes the latest island-elimination installment, decorate with tiki lights, totems and tropical fruits. Hold "challenges" until one victor remains. Choose a vampire theme in honor of her favorite horror movie and send out coffin-shaped invitations. Serve red punch. Invite friends and family with hairstyling and photography skills and host a party based on a modeling or runway series, complete with makeovers and a fashion shoot. Or simply hold a movie-premiere party complete with a red carpet, formal attire and a slide show presentation based on the life of the birthday girl.
