Rv Campgrounds In Kauai Hawaii

All campers are required to register for a permit with the Department of Parks and Recreation of Kauai'i.

The Hawaiian archipelago island, Kauai'i, is known as the "Green Island" for its lush greenery and breezy tropical weather with occasional evening showers. Kauai'i boasts two major natural attractions: Waimea Canyon and Na'Pali Coast. At an elevation of 4,000 feet, the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" has numerous hiking trails leading to magnificent views. The 17-mile coast of Na'Pali is typically seen by boat or helicopter, but the truly adventurous can hike and kayak along the coast.

Polihale State Park

Off Kaumuali'i Highway is one of the most remote beaches, known as Polihale State Park. This is a popular RV campsite amongst locals, particularly on the weekend, but it still never seems crowded. The five-mile beach is accessible by an unpaved, dirt road. It is recommended to start the day with a full tank of gas. The beach within the 140-acre park is secluded, with massive sand dunes as the backdrop. Restrooms, picnic tables and outdoor showers are on the premises, but no shops or other facilities are available, aside from a kayak rental . Typically, the water is rough and not recommended for recreational activities; however, swimming is allowed at Queen's Pond, a small area at the southern end of the park. Strong caution is still recommended.

Koke'e State Park

On the northwestern region of Kauai'i, adjoining the northern section of Waimea Canyon, is Koke'e State Park. The park boasts a wide variety of native plants like the koa tree and hibiscus flowers. Bird watching is a popular activity due to the numerous native birds that inhabit the park. Many locals also visit for pig hunting and trout fishing. There are many hiking trails, including along the rims of Waimea Canyon and Kalalau Valley. Restrooms, outdoor showers, picnic areas and pay phones are available for campers. A restaurant and museum are located on the premises.

Ha'ena Beach Park

Located on the north shore of Kauai'i is Ha'ena Beach Park. Many visitors use this site as a base camp for the Kalalu trail hike. The main beach road is known as the "end of the road" because it comes to a sudden end by the Na'Pali Coast. Basic bathrooms with outdoor showers, RV hookups and a dump-station--a facility to discharge wastewater from the RV holding tanks--are all on-site. There is also a spacious lawn area with picnic tables. Ha'ena is a popular surf spot for experienced surfers and body boarders. The ocean can often be hazardous with strong waves and currents. For campers in need of supplies, the town of Hanalei is a short 15-minute drive.
