"
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" (COD4) is a first-person shooter video game designed by Infinity Ward and released on the Wii as a "Reflex Edition" in 2009. The single-player campaign of COD4 contains 30 pieces of enemy intelligence, or intel. Infinity Ward structured COD4's single-player campaign as a narrative that takes place over 18 missions. Collecting pieces of enemy intel unlocks cheats at the end of the game.
Identification
All pieces of enemy intel in COD4 for the Wii appear as an open laptop that displays a screenshot of maps and data. Players pick up these laptops by touching them. Infinity Ward included enemy intel as a component that has no effect on the single-player game mode until players activate each piece's corresponding cheat. Once collected, the enemy intel disappears from the single-player mission, and do not reappear even if a player restarts the game.
Function
Enemy intel pieces have two functions in COD4. Players can earn trophies for collecting a certain number of pieces. When a player collects 15 pieces of enemy intel, he receives the "Look Sharp" achievement trophy. When a player collects all 30 pieces, she earns the "Eyes and Ears" achievement trophy. Intel also unlocks cheats once a player has completed the entire single-player campaign. After a player collects six pieces of enemy intel, he can activate the "Super Contrast" cheat from the cheat menu, which players can access by pressing the "Start" button. This cheat enhances the game's appearance during play. When a player collects 30 pieces of enemy intel, she can activate the "Infinite Ammo" cheat, which lets her play the single-player mission with unlimited ammo for any weapon she uses.
Location
Infinity Ward did not evenly distribute the enemy intel across all 18 missions, and not every single-player mission contains enemy intel. Some missions, such as "All Ghillied Up" feature three pieces of enemy intel. The missions that contain enemy intel include two pieces in "Crew Expendable," two pieces in "Blackout," three pieces in "Charlie Don't Surf," two pieces each in "Bog," and "Hunted," three pieces in "War Pig," two pieces in "Shock and Awe" and "Safehouse," three pieces in "All Ghillied Up," two pieces in "One Shot, One Kill" and "The Sins of the Father," one piece in "Ultimatum" and two pieces each in "All In" and "No Fighting in the War Room."
Acquisition
Infinity Ward hid many pieces of enemy intel in out-of-the-way spots or places that are difficult to access. In some missions, such as "Blackout," players need to kill enemies guarding the intel pieces. Finding all 30 pieces of enemy intel requires searching every area of the map; a good strategy would include completing all the objectives of each mission, clearing out all enemies and then doubling back to explore the entire map. A number of gamers have posted "walkthroughs" of the entire single-player mission that detail where to find each piece of enemy intel.
