Where To Create Your Own Invitations

Not everyone has Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Quark XPress or other common graphic-design software programs used to create attractive invitations for events. Thanks to some Internet-based programs, you can design invitations by simply going online. There are paid and free services that will allow you to produce a professional-looking invitation. Does this Spark an idea?

American Greetings

American Greetings, the greeting-card company, has a "create and print" online tool available for customers. You can design the card online and then have professional printed copies (plus envelopes if you want) shipped to you. Choose from provided templates or design your own invitation from scratch. There is a mail-merge tool that will allow you to print your envelopes with the names and addresses of your recipients. There is a fee associated with this service of around $20 per year---see "Resources" for the direct link.

Evite

If you don't mind an online invitation, use Evite.com. This service allows you to design and create your invitation online. Choose from template designs for your invitations. The service offers you everything from elegant looks for an engagement party to clown designs for a kids' party. You can also use your own images. Add text related to your event and preview the invitation. Once the invitation is complete, you can then email it to your friends and family. This online service is free.

Invitation Land

InvitationLand.com is a convenient service because you don't have to download any special software to design your invitations. All you need is your Web browser. Choose from free templates (or join the site to get a wider selection), add text, change colors and fonts and then save the invitation as a PDF file. This PDF file can either be taken to your local print shop or printed on your home machine. You can print the invitations 4-up (four to a page), 2-up or one on each 8.5 x 11 standard letter-size page.

Avery

Avery, the company that sells shipping labels, has an online design tool that will allow you to create cards and invitations. Start by picking a category and then a template. When you are again presented with a list of category options for the design you picked, choose "cards" to create your invitation. Design your invitations online for free and then print them on your home computer, on Avery paper (required as a condition of the service). There is a plug-in that must be downloaded to use this service. See "Resources" for a direct link to the tool.
