Western Party Food For A Wedding Reception

Serve your guests typical western foods and save thousands on your catering budget.

Western-themed wedding receptions offer the perfect opportunity to cut costs while still providing your guests an exceptional meal whether semi-formal or casual. Receptions can be planned with the assistance of a caterer for a relaxed and semi-formal setting or with friends and family cooking for a casual theme. Western themed receptions can be held picnic style, barbecue style or cocktail style.

Meats

Grilled hamburgers, steaks, pork chops or chicken can be served in a picnic-style western wedding reception. The meat can be branded with a branding iron for a more personalized touch. Roast pig and pulled pork are two options for a barbecue style reception. A carving station with seasoned and prepared beef roast, brisket, baked ham and roasted chicken served by caterers sets the stage for a relaxing western restaurant-style reception.

Side Dishes

Corn, on or off the cob, coleslaw, baked beans and potato salad are western favorites perfect for the picnic-style or western barbecue-style receptions. Serve vegetables buffet style or have caterers walk around with large bowls serving guests for a restaurant feel to the reception. Serve vegetables plated and allow guests to choose their meats from the carving station or the grill. When serving in restaurant or buffet style, include a pasta station with melted cheese, white and red sauces and plain pasta along with pasta salad.

Desserts & Snacks

Homemade or hand spun ice cream are ideal for dessert at any type of western-themed wedding reception in addition to the wedding cake. Pecan pie or fruit cobblers will compliment the ice cream as well. Serve shelled nuts as a snack; guests can add them to their ice cream if desired. Chips and dip are also a favorite for casual receptions and can be served in more than one flavor for variety, including tortilla chips and salsa or barbecue chips with blue cheese dip.

Extras

Serve your guests two to three flavors of cheese cubes on western-themed picks and fruit set out in baskets. Cut cornbread into small sized portions and serve them in multiple varieties and heat levels. Western-themed corn bread can be cooked with corn and other vegetables, with habanero peppers and cheese or plain with butter. The bread can be speared with toothpicks for an appetizer impression or cut in larger slices for a meal type setting. Place additional pats of butter in a decorative serving dish for guests to add to the cornbread.
