What Entertainment Is There For Kids Near Dallas Texas

Finding entertainment appropriate for children means planning in advance to find venues that cater to families. As a large urban area, Dallas, Texas, and its suburbs has many activities for children that will keep your kids busy and pleased. While many of these attractions are pricey, inexpensive options are available, too.

Museums and Educational

Entertainment can be educational as well as fun. One of the most famous historical sites in Texas is the location that President John F. Kennedy was shot. Give children a first-hand look at history by visiting the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, the location from which Kennedy was shot. Dallas Heritage Village also offers an opportunity for children to learn history. The park is located just south of downtown and is home to buildings representing1840-1910. Employees dress in period clothing to teach about life during those years.

Animals

The Dallas Zoo has attractions and programs geared to children of all ages. Some of the more notable exhibits include Dallas Zoo Penguin Days, Giants of the Savanna and a Children's Zoo. The Children's Zoo is a petting zoo that allows children to feed and touch animals like goats. The Giants of the Savanna Exhibit is a safari attraction with elephants, lions and other animals. The zoo property is also home to the Dallas World Aquarium.

Games and Amusement Parks

The Six Flags Over Texas amusement park is located in the Dallas suburb of Arlington. The park opens each year in March and is home to more than 50 rides. The rides are geared to children of different ages from Looney Tunes rides for young children to thrill rides for older children. Besides rides, the park has musical acts and people in Looney Tunes character costumes. Across the street from Six Flags Over Texas is Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, a water park with rides, slides and pools.

Inexpensive Ideas

Visit the Dallas Central Library to check out books for children and to participate in free programs offered at the library like story time and crafts. If the Central Library isn't convenient, the library system has 27 other locations. You can also take kids to the Dallas Farmers Market in downtown Dallas, where you can teach kids about healthy eating and nutrition. Getting into the market is free, so the only money you'll spend is on items purchased.
