These bright berries would make a great centerpiece, wreath or swag.
Bring the winter wonderland from outdoors inside for a memorable winter party or to decorate your home for the holidays. Inspired by the sparkling blankets of snow, winter decorating is an opportunity to use anything shiny or glittery to transform what generally is a drab season into a festive atmosphere for family or guests. Does this Spark an idea?
Winter Trees
Collect some tree limbs and branches, and spray paint them white. Spray them with glitter if you like or embellish them here and there with clusters of bright red berries wired on. You can hang them from the ceiling, attach them to a wall or place them in pots with dirt to hold them up. Place mirrors behind them to create a forest. You can also decorate outside by putting the limbs and branches directly in the ground.
Wall of Winter Lights
Cover the ceiling or an entire wall with white string lights. Put tacks at intervals along the sides, and simply string the lights back and forth. Cover the lights with a layer of white tulle. Bunch up the tulle fabric here and there to make a soft, glowing white landscape.
Snowflakes and Icicles
Hang strings or individual snowflakes and icicles from the ceiling, fixtures, edges of tables and in windows and doorways. You can purchase them or make your own from white paper sprayed with glitter.
Centerpieces
Make festive winter centerpieces by surrounding a pine or spice-scented candle with greenery, mossy twigs, pine cones, a snowflake garland or fake snow. Use glass, crystal or reflective metal candlesticks, or float a candle in a bowl of water and cranberries.
Fake Snow
Mimic the fluffy winter-scape outside by placing pieces of cotton batting underneath winter decorations like snowmen, ice skates or small Christmas trees. Make hills and drifts of snow by draping the batting over upside-down bowls and platters. Finish it with a sprinkle of glitter if you like. This base can go under any winter or holiday items you want to display.
Winter Fruits
Tasty, juicy fruits seem a bit sweeter in winter. Display some classic winter fruits like persimmons, pears, pomegranates, tangerines and cranberries in a bowl, or pile them on a platter. For a more formal or dramatic display, place some glass craft stones in the bottom of a tall, narrow glass vase and loosely stack your winter fruit on top of the stones.
Wreaths and Swags
A favorite winter tradition that stays strong year after year is the evergreen wreath. Add a twist to this classic by making wreaths out of holly, mossy twigs or branches of winter berries. Garnish with ribbon, fake birds and fruit, pine cones and ornaments. Evergreen boughs and other branches and plants can also be made into swags to hang over doorways inside and out.
