If you're having a beach-themed party, one of the many things you likely have to create are centerpieces. These beach-themed centerpieces will be sure to catch your guests' attention and add to the decor of the event. From actual fish-filled fishbowls to toy lighthouses and elegant but fun starfish chandeliers, there's something for every type of party. The centerpiece is the focal point of a table and should further develop the style and tone.
Lighthouse Scenescape
Find some fun toy or collectible model lighthouses. You need at least one for each table, but a cluster of lighthouses of different sizes will also do. Place the lighthouse on a small platter and glue down. Surround with sand and shells to create a "lighthouse scenescape."
Shovel and Pail
Purchase a variety of children's plastic shovels and pails, or find rustic metal shovels and pails. Fill them with sweet treats for guests to enjoy, candles to bring a little light to the table, champagne or wine, or even real sand. If it's a casual party, you might even have a small sandbox at each table for guests (or at least the kids) to make designs and sand castles with.
Fishbowls
Get some clear fishbowls of any shape or size and fill with sand, shells and other beach items to create a scene that makes your guests feel as if they are on the beach. Or fill the fishbowl with water and some actual fish for the evening (be sure to put them back in an oxygenated tank after the party). Add a touch of fish tank scenery such as plants and pebbles and you have an instant fish tank to keep your guests amused.
Starfish Chandelier
Depending on your location, you may be able to make true chandeliers that hang from the ceiling. Otherwise, find some tall posts with hangers that stand alone and hang a shortened starfish chandelier from it. These chandeliers are a collection of real starfish strung from beaded strings to create a stunning visual impact. You can make one of these by taking several dried starfish of varying sizes and poking a single hole in one leg of each using a needle. String a piece of fishing line through each hole. Tie in a triple knot. Thread crystals or beads of your choice on the string, then tie the other end to your post or the ceiling. The starfish should not touch each other, and they should hang at different lengths.
Conch Shell Candles
Set candles into large conch shells filled with melted wax so the candles stay sturdy. Or make your own by melting some candle wax in the shell and adding wicks before it dries. These are beautiful and simple centerpieces that provide soft light.
Palm Tree of Notes
Make or purchase miniature palm trees and provide small notes or cards for guests to write messages on to hang from the fronds of the palm. These "paper trees" are interactive and bring the natural environment to the table while also providing entertainment. You can draw names to see who will take the tree home.
