Wedding Reception Ideas

Although your wedding ceremony might be the most important part of your big day, the reception is where your guests can kick off their shoes and enjoy themselves.

Dance Party

If your family and friends are dancers, then host dinner and a dance party. This is the most common type of wedding reception, but it can easily be spiced up by adding nontraditional elements. Consider having a flamenco guitarist, renting limbo poles, or hiring a swing or salsa dance instructor and dance the night away.

Picnic and Games

Have an outdoor picnic with yard games such as volleyball, horseshoes and croquet. Provide blankets and picnic baskets full of goodies for your guests. For favors, include a personalized deck of cards in each picnic basket.

The Getaway

For the ultimate romantic reception, and if your budget allows, have your wedding on a cruise ship or on the beach of an island. Decorate with tiki torches and serve drinks in coconut shells. Hire local dancers or musicians to give a cultural feel to your reception.

Sunrise Celebration

Consider having your ceremony during sunrise, then hosting a pancake and waffle breakfast reception. Serve orange juice or coffee to your guests, and have a topping bar with fruit toppings, local syrups and a variety of nuts.

Special Location

Have your wedding at a lighthouse, museum, amusement park, art gallery, aquarium or any other interesting location. You and your guests can explore the site as part of your wedding reception.
