Use decorations to welcome someone special in your home.
It's always exciting when someone you love comes home after being away for a long time. Whether you're welcoming home a member of the military, a family member who's been in the hospital or the mother of a brand-new baby, make them feel special by filling your home with reminders that you're glad to see them home. Does this Spark an idea?
Banners
Banners let you tell the whole world how happy your are that your loved one is home. You could print out a welcome home banner from your computer or purchase one from a store. If you want a large, homemade banner, head over to your local newspaper, and ask them if you can purchase a role of their print paper. Most newspapers will sell you a large quantity of rolled paper at a very low cost. Decorate the banner with magic markers, crayons, stamps, stickers, ribbons or anything else you have on hand. Then have everyone close to the person sign the banner, giving their good wishes.
Welcome Baskets
Create homemade welcome baskets that you can scatter around your home for decoration. If you are welcoming a new baby into the home, put items the new mom might need at hand, such as baby shampoos, diapers and blankets, in the baskets. Place them in the appropriate areas. If you're welcoming someone home after an illness, use the baskets to provide some favorite foods, reading material and other entertainment options for their recovery at home. If the person you are honoring is coming home from a military engagement, you could fill the baskets with treats and items that you made for him while he was away, such as handmade crafts and photographs you have taken during his absence.
Decorate With Pictures
Show a person how much you love her when she comes home by decorating your house with special images. Choose part of a wall that you will decorate with events from that person's life. You can use poster board as a backing or a cork board. Add awards or notes from other people about the honoree. Another option for decoration is creating a collage of images of the individual's friends and family members that you can hang on the wall. If the person you are welcoming home is in the military, surround the collage with small flags.
