Detective Nancy Drew is always on a new case trying to find the answers for recent suspicious problems and activities. Each "Nancy Drew" game includes new suspects, puzzles and locations, but some things stay the same. Released by Her Interactive, the "Nancy Drew" series now has more than 15 games for the PC.
In Game Hints
It can be easy to get lost or stuck as you play a "Nancy Drew" game. If you can't speak to any of the suspects or find new locations and clues, you can use a hint and it will point you in the right direction.
To get help, you can call one of Nancy's friends and they will give you a clue on where to go next. Call your friends Bess, Ned or George by using the cell phone in your inventory. Every game does not have a cell phone, but a phone may be available in Nancy's room, in the lobby of the motel or mansion in which she is staying or in one of the locations that Nancy will have to visit.
In some of the most recent "Nancy Drew" games, there are no phones and no way to contact her friends for help. In these cases, Nancy finds two talking parrots that are willing to give clues if you feed them their favorite snacks.
In "Ransom of the Seven Ships," feed fruit to Coucou and you will be able to ask for a hint. Coucou will also perform tricks if you ask. Another parrot named Loulou can be found in "The Curse of Blackmoor Manor." Create a special mixture of seeds to feed Loulou and she will also award Nancy a hint.
Nancy Drew Easter Eggs
Easter eggs can be found in most, but not all of, the "Nancy Drew" games. Each Easter egg is difficult to find, and it isn't likely that you will stumble upon it as you play the game unless you are really lucky. Even if you know the location of an Easter egg, in most cases it will not show up until you have completed a clue or puzzle.
In some of the "Nancy Drew" games, you can find the egg by walking or driving along a path. You can dig it up as you search for treasure or, in many cases, it is found by dialing a special number on a telephone. "Secrets Can Kill," "Treasure in the Royal Tower" and "The White Wolf of Icicle Creek" are a just a few of the "Nancy Drew" games that requires you to dial a number on the nearest phone.
Stars and Awards
New "Nancy Drew" games, starting with "The Phantom of Venice," require Nancy to do extra tasks to get a star or award at the end of the game. Some of these tasks seem mundane and do not help you in the game, so some players may ignore them.
For instance, Nancy can go into the bathroom in "The Phantom of Venice" and you will hear running water or the sound of a toilet flushing, and then Nancy will leave the bathroom and you can continue to play the game. However, if you visit the bathroom an unknown number of times, you will receive an award.
In some of the games, Nancy will find items that are not integral to the story, but if you collect all of the items, you will receive another award.
