Though Hawaii is known for its beaches, waves and scenery, there are many toddler-friendly things to do when visiting the island state. Many toddler-friendly attractions in Hawaii provide hands-on experiences for young children and give you an opportunity to show your child Hawaiian animals, culture and experiences on their level.
Hawaii Children's Discovery Center
Located in Honolulu, the Hawaii Children's Discovery Center provides toddlers a chance to explore child-centered exhibitions. The center offers rotating special exhibits, a special Tot Spot for toddlers and children under five, an exhibit about the human body, a community-centered exhibit, an exhibit focusing on world cultures, and "Hawaiian Rainbows," an exhibit designed to give toddlers and children a chance to explore and experience what makes Hawaii so unique. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays, excluding most major holidays.

Honolulu Zoo
The Honolulu Zoo gives toddlers the opportunity to visit their favorite animals. The zoo is home to many animals from birds and reptiles to those found on an African savanna. The zoo also provides a playground and a special children's zoo, where toddlers interact with animals including cows, goats, hedgehogs, llamas, pot-bellied pigs, sheep, tortoises and turkeys. The zoo is open daily, excluding Christmas Day, and offers stroller-friendly pathways. Admission for toddlers ages three and under is free when accompanied by a paying adult.

Kauai Kanana Dairy
The Kauai Kanana Dairy offers toddlers and their families a chance to explore and learn about a working Hawaii farm and dairy. The dairy offers morning tours, lasting from an hour and a half to two hours, and including a light farm breakfast. As part of the tour, toddlers get an opportunity to sample the fruits that are grown on the farm and taste the cheeses that are made in the dairy. In addition, toddlers get the chance to interact with the farms goats, chickens and honey bees and explore the tropical fruit orchard.

Maui Ocean Center
The Maui Ocean Center gives toddlers an opportunity to view a variety of ocean animals that are found in the waters around Hawaii. Animals at the center include eels, reef fish, jellyfish, sea turtles, sharks and stingrays. Naturalists provide information to toddlers and their families and give daily presentations. At "The Tide Pool" exhibit, toddlers get the opportunity to touch friendly marine animals. Toddlers under the age of three are offered free admission to the center, though older family members must pay an admission fee.

Sugar Cane Train
A ride on the Sugar Cane Train gives toddlers an opportunity to take a ride on a steam-powered train. The train travels along a six-mile track and offers scenic views of the West Maui Mountains, neighboring islands and occasionally humpback whales. The train ride is narrated and provides insights into the area. Toddlers under the age of three can ride the train for free, though older children and adults must pay an admission fee.
