Party Themes For A 65yearold

A 65th birthday celebration doesn't have to center around an "Over the Hill" theme.

Years ago, turning 65 meant retirement and it became common to host 65th birthday parties with an "Over the Hill" theme. Today, a 65th birthday is viewed as a beginning of great things ahead. The theme you select for a 65th birthday party should reflect the personality of the birthday person and the excitement of entering a new phase of life. Does this Spark an idea?

Hobbies

Many people who turn 65 decide to retire from work life and begin enjoying a particular hobby. Use the birthday person's hobby as the theme of the party. For example, if he enjoys fishing, plan your decorations with a fishing theme, incorporating paper fish, a fish-shaped pinata, fish nets, and fishing poles on the walls. Gifts should be fishing-oriented, and food can be what someone would take when going fishing, like sandwiches, fruit, and chips.

If the birthday boy loves to garden, gardening would make an ideal birthday party theme. Clusters of small plants, baskets of fresh-picked fruits and vegetables, and fresh flower bouquets can make for a welcoming and festive party decor.

Memory Lane

By the time she reaches 65, the birthday girl would have had a host of eventful experiences in her life. Contact co-workers, friends, and family for stories about the birthday person. While contacting these people, borrow relevant photographs, movies, and videos involving the birthday girl. Frame the photos or make a large photo collage to place prominently at the party. Play the videos at appropriate times during the party. Ask guests to write about stories and memories in a journal, then present the journal to the guest of honor. Set up an area like a photo booth, complete with a balloon arch, to take photographs of the honoree and guests, then add the photos to the memory book for a treasured keepsake.

Hollywood

A Hollywood theme for a 65th birthday can be quite festive. Select a Hollywood era based on the decade the birthday person was born. Tell the guests to come dressed as their favorite star of the decade. Put movie posters on the walls, hang silver and gold glitter stars from the ceiling, and add a red carpet for a dramatic entrance. Set up a karaoke machine with popular songs from the chosen decade. Videotape the karaoke performances to give to the birthday person.
