What should you pack for Hawaii?
Packing for Hawaii isn't tricky. Still, forgetting something can be a major pain, while packing unnecessary items can be annoying. Basically, you'll want to bring your beach stuff, some clothes, and a few other odds and ends.
Beach Stuff
First and foremost, you want to make sure you're prepared for the beach. Bring two swimming suits, a towel, a pair of sandals, and sunglasses. Don't forget some sort of reef shoe--footwear that stays on and can get wet. Sunscreen (SPF 30 or above) is also a must (and use it!). A hat and SPF 30 lip sunscreen will also come in handy. Be sure to check your airline's website for specifications on cream or liquid items, as such things are often restricted by size.
Clothing
Unless you're headed to a business meeting, shorts and a t-shirt work well almost anywhere during the day; Hawaii's famous for being laid back. Bring a collared shirt or two for when you go out to restaurants. If you plan on going to a very nice restaurant or other formal event, call ahead of time (before your trip) and ask what the dress standards are, then pack appropriately.
Odd and Ends
Don't forget to bring a guidebook. Sure, you may not "need" one, but it will end up being useful; you can count on it. Recommended are Moon and Lonely Planet guidebooks. Wet wipes never fail to come in handy in an emergency. You may want binoculars, too, especially if you're a bird-lover. And don't forget your camera.
