Take a tropical break at a South Pennsylvania tiki bar.
Fruity concoctions, thatched roofs and an endless variety of funny-faced d cor help make tiki bars a lively and atmospheric place to chill out over a few cocktails. Visitors to southern Pennsylvania don't need to travel to the tropics to get a taste of tiki bar flavor, and can even enjoy some of these island-style lounges all year long. If you long for the vibe of far away locales but don't have the time or resources to venture to a traditional beachside tiki bar, try taking a vacation for a few hours at some of these southern Pennsylvania bastions.
The Tiki Bar
Open from May through September at the Spring Mountain Ski Area in Montgomery County, The Tiki Bar supplies umbrella-studded drinks in a woodsy outdoor setting complete with fake palm trees. Specializing in whatever you can cook on a grill, The Tiki Bar offers up a revolving menu of steaks, chicken, ribs and seafood cooked over the outdoor barbecue. A rotating selection of domestic and imported beers accompanies the traditional rum-laced fruit drinks offered from the bar. Live reggae bands add a tropical rhythm to the festivities on Thursday evenings during dinner.

Batdorf Restaurant
Taking over the historic 18th-century Washington House Tavern building in 2007, the Batdorf Restaurant added eclectic d cor and an outdoor tiki bar that is open year round at its Annville location. Casual pub fare of burgers, appetizers and Mexican cuisine is served on the patio, dubbed Pub Tiki, under a full roof that affords cool breezes in the summer. Flaps protect patrons from the winter chill while still helping to maintain an outdoor atmosphere.
Modeled after Cancun-style beach bars, Pub Tiki features island d cor quite different from the more historic atmosphere inside the restaurant. A whopping 24 beers on tap and 200 bottled beer selections complement the rum punch and pina colada offerings available from the bar.
