Things To Do For Kids' Birthdays In Your Own Home

Throw an exciting birthday party for your child right at home.

Many children enjoy having their birthday party in their own home. When hosting a home birthday party for your child, prepare a memorable party she and her friends will be talking about for weeks to come. From a backyard carnival to a scavenger hunt party, all you need are a few ideas and a creative imagination to create a birthday party for your child in your own home. Does this Spark an idea?

Carnival Party

Send out ticket-style invitations inviting your party guests to the "birthday carnival." Decorate the party area with bright-colored balloons, streamers and decorations. Make game booths for the party guests to play in the backyard using sheets and blankets. For a small game area, simply use large cardboard appliance boxes. Some game examples include a prize duck pond or tin can shootout using empty soda cans and water guns. Borrow or rent a popcorn machine, cotton candy machine and snow cone maker. Party favors and prizes can include plush animals, inflatable toys and clown-themed toys.

Solid Color Party

Ask your child what his favorite color is and build the entire party around that color. For example, if his favorite color is blue, create the party using a variety of blue decorations. Hang light and dark blue streamers, balloons and decorations. Send out blue invitations and cover each party table with a blue tablecloth, sheet or towel. For added fun, paint each child's face who enters the party with blue face paint. Play a game of pin the color on the color wheel instead of pin the tail on the donkey. Print a color wheel and print the coordinating color wedges with each child's name on a wedge. The child who pins the wedge closest to the correct spot wins the game.

Glow Party

Many children will enjoy a glow-in-the-dark party. Plan this type of party in the evening or at night for best results. Send out the party invitations with an attached glow-in-the-dark necklace. Tell your guests to wear white or neon-colored clothing. Place black butcher paper on all the windows to make the party area dark and hang several black lights around the party area. The kids' white and neon clothes will glow-in-the-dark. Have a glow-in-the-dark party hunt by hiding several items that glow and have the children hunt for the items. The child who finds the most items wins the hunt and an additional party prize.

Scavenger Party

Most kids enjoy scavenger hunts, so plan a scavenger hunt-themed party for your child. Divide the children into teams and be sure you have one or two adults to go with each team for safety reasons. Always plan scavenger hunts in well-known neighborhoods, as well. After everyone arrives to the party, give each team a list of 25 random items, such as red nail polish, a roll of toilet paper, an old shoe or a dollar bill. The first team to go out and collect 20 of the 25 items on their team list wins the scavenger hunt. For a stay-at-home hunt, make a nature hunt. Include items that the children can find outside like twigs, rocks, leaves and bugs.
