Things to Do in Hawaii at Night
When you think of Hawai'i, most people imagine the daytime activities of surfing, boogie boarding, hiking, and just lazing in the sunshine. But Hawaii has adventures for nightcrawlers as well. Here are some helpful ideas on things to do at night on a few of Hawaii's islands.
Luau Baby
One of the best-known ways to spend an evening as a visitor to the Hawaiian islands is to attend a luau. A luau is a Hawaiian feast that usually includes entertainment, such as a hula dance, live music, or other traditional dance. You can usually find these at one of the major hotels on an island. Expect to pay a larger amount than you usually do for a dinner meal.
Live Lava
If you are on the Big Island of Hawaii, travel south outside of Hawaii's Volcano Park at dusk for a view of lava falling into the ocean. It's a sight you'll never forget. Bring a flashlight and family and friends, and sit in the wonder of nature creating an island.
Manta Rays
Several of the islands have shops that offer a chance to see ocean life--such as the famed 15-foot manta rays--through a nightly dive. The prices can average about $150 for this unique view of the creatures of the ocean unlike any way you've seen them before.
Watch the Sunset
You can't go wrong sitting with your honey to enjoy sunset at any of the beaches on the islands. Some of the best spots include Sunset Beach on the North Shore of Oahu or my favorite find, Shangri-la Indian restaurant off Sugar Beach in South Maui.
Stargaze
Drive yourself or go with a touring company to Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii. The first Saturday of each month allows stargazers to use telescopes to see stars and sights at this elevation that aren't visible to the rest of the world. Touring companies will take you in style in a van up the windy and bumpy roads, treat you to a meal, and stop off at the observatories during sunset for a magical view above the clouds.
