Teenage Birthday Party Game Ideas

Keep teenages entertained by playing games at birthday parties.

Teenage birthday parties present an opportunity for youths to come together, celebrate the special person's special day and have a blast playing games. Age-appropriate activities are a necessity at such events to keep party guests interested and entertained. Some games take preparation, others just need willing participants. Does this Spark an idea?

Honey, Do You Love Me?

For this game, the birthday teen sits down in a chair in front of the other guests. In essence, each guest takes turns trying to make the birthday teen laugh. However, there are some very specific guidelines regarding what guests are permitted to do and say. For instance, the guests can only say, "Honey, do you love me?" Each guest may use any accent, pronunciation or volume desired, but saying any other words is prohibited. Guests are also permitted from touching the birthday teen. Once the guest asks the question, the birthday teen must respond, "Honey, I do love you but I will not smile" without cracking a grin. If a guest manages to make the birthday teen smile, the guest replaces the birthday teen in the chair. Play continues until the group finds a teen who simply will not smile, who is then declared the victor.

Capture the Glow Stick

Played much like its "Flagged" cousin, "Capture the Glow Stick" is best played at night in a large field with scattered trees or hay bails. The birthday teen is declared captain of one team and gets to select the captain of the opposing team. Both captains take turns selecting teammates from the guest group until all guests are selected. Both teams receive a two-liter bottle containing several lit glowsticks and water, which act as the "flags." The central boundary of the playing field is marked by a string of glowsticks hanging above the ground on a length of twine. Both teams also possess a small jail cell near the "flag" location marked by four glowsticks inserted into the group in a square shape. When the game begins, players attempt to capture their opponent's flag while protecting their own. If a player is tagged by an opponent on the opponent's side of the central boundary, the player is locked in jail. Players are released from jail when a friendly player tags them in. The first team to possess both flags on the friendly side of the central boundary is declared the winner.

Egg Toss

This game is designed for a large outdoor field with plenty of light. Each party guest selects a partner, with each pair receiving one egg. The guests stand in a line facing their partners, taking turns tossing the egg back and forth. The guests must each take one step back after each toss, thereby making for more difficult throws. To make the game more interesting, prohibit guests from using their dominants hands to throw, allow guests to catch with only one hand or force players to catch while sitting down. This game results in plenty of egged shirts and hands, so ask the party guests to bring a change of clothes ahead of time.

Strange Music Videos

This game requires a video camera and the lyrics of any well-known song printed on several sheets of paper. Party guests create six equally sized teams. The birthday teen assigns a music genre to each group, which might include rap, opera, country, boy band and others. After receiving genre assignments, each group has 20 minutes to read through the song lyrics and create a music video with their respective genres. After plenty of practice, each group performs its routine in front of the other groups and a recording camera. Be sure to play the video later in the evening for plenty of laughs.
