Party games can help break the ice and entertain guests at your teen's surprise birthday party.
Planning a surprise birthday party for your teen can be tricky. Because your child can't be part of the planning, it's up to you to make sure that he--and his guests--don't feel that the party is "lame." It's not always easy to impress teenagers, but you can avoid disaster by planning some entertaining party games that will get everyone involved and will leave them laughing. Does this Spark an idea?
All About Me
Make your guest of honor the star of this party game by preparing a questionnaire that's all about her. Come up with some fun questions to make things interesting. Give each guest a pen and paper. Have your teen read the questions out loud, then give the guests five minutes to answer. When time is up, your teen can run down the list and provide the answers. Whoever has the most correct answers wins the game.
Murder Wink
Cut a few sheets of paper into squares--one for each of your guests. Mark one with an "M" for "murderer" and "V" on the others for "victim." Fold the papers in half and place them in a hat, then let each guest choose one. The person with the "M" will be the murderer. He then tries to kill a victim by winking (as secretively as possible) at that person. After a few seconds, the victim falls to the floor and "dies." The other players must try to figure out who the murderer is. The murderer wins if he kills all his victims without being caught. Another player can win by catching the murderer "in the act" of winking at someone. But if he wrongly accuses someone of being the murderer, he's out of the game.
Whipped Cream and Bubblegum
Prepare a "feast" of bubblegum--covered in a generous dose of whipped cream--for each guest. Have each of them stand at a table with their concoctions in front of them, hands behind their backs. On the word "Go," have the guests dig their mouths into the whipped cream and search for the bubblegum. They must chew it and blow a bubble. Whoever blows the first bubble is the winner. Make sure to have plenty of paper towels on hand!
Tapper
This game is designed to be played at a sleepover, after dark. It starts off with one person being chosen as "the tapper." This person leaves the room while the other guests run and hide under blankets. Once everyone is hidden, one person turns out the light and goes back into hiding. The tapper then enters the room, keeping the lights off. She taps on someone, who says something in a "disguised" voice. If the tapper can guess who is talking, that person becomes the tapper. If the tapper is wrong, she moves onto another person. Once she guesses correctly, that person becomes the new tapper, leaves the room, and everyone hides again.
