Long, slender orchid branches suit many slim designs.
Orchid arrangements make lovely, elegant centerpieces for beach weddings, Asian-inspired weddings, and chic, trendy weddings. Due to their slim, sleek appearance, orchids work well in both large flower arrangements as well as single-flower centerpieces. Orchids work fine standing alone, but also look charming in arrangements involving water, candles or other flowers.
Floating Orchids
Float two or three orchid blossoms in a bowl of water. Use a solid dark ceramic bowl to create a serene, calm appearance. For a more romantic, elegant twist, place the water and orchids in a clear crystal bowl and surround the bowl with tea light candles. The water and crystal will reflect the light, casting a warm ambiance on the table.
Submerged Orchid
Whole submerged flowers make a unique, chic centerpiece, and orchids work particularly well for such an arrangement. Use a tall vase just wide enough to hold a single orchid. Trim the stem down so that the vase has roughly 2 inches more height than the orchid. Weigh the orchid down by attaching a washer to the bottom of the stem, and secure the washer in place by piling small stones on top of it at the bottom of the vase.
Potted Orchid
Use living, growing potted orchids as centerpieces. Go to a local market or wholesale nursery to buy enough blooming orchids for your reception. Put the orchids in a decorative basket and tie a ribbon personalized with the names of the bride and groom around the basket. Potted orchids also double as wedding favors in addition to lovely centerpieces for your wedding reception.
Orchid Bouqet
A budget-friendly way to incorporate orchids in both your wedding and reception involves doubling up on your arrangements. Depending on your number of bridesmaids and your number of reception tables, your bridesmaids' bouquets can double as centerpieces for an intimate reception. Have the bridesmaids place their bouquets in vases previously set on the tables. If there are too many tables at your reception for this to work, have your bridesmaids combine their bouquets into a centerpiece for the wedding party's table.
Single Orchid Vase
Tall, thin centerpieces work well for receptions because they have impressive height but not enough width to block your guests' vision. A single orchid set in a slim vase has an elegant appearance. For added effect, scatter a few orchid petals around the base of the vase or along the table.
Mixed Vase
Create a flower arrangement using orchids as the focal point and other flowers as accents. To further emphasize a tropical theme, use other flowers typically seen at beach weddings, like dahlias, nasturtium and calla lilies. For non-beach weddings, use a contrasting flower, like a rose or Gerber daisy.
