Retirement Invitation Ideas

A retirement party celebrates years of working accomplishments for the guest of honor. Retirement parties vary from small affairs to large corporate events for the entire company. The invitations set the tone for the retirement party, making them an essential part in the planning process. These retirement party invitations offer creative alternatives to boring company memos announcing a cake in the break room.

Suitcases

Create retirement invitations in the shape of suitcases to represent the honoree's departure from the work world. Use brown card stock. Cut out a rectangle with curved edges to resemble an old-fashioned suitcase. Add straps to the suitcase with additional card stock. Write the party details on the back side of the paper suitcase. Another option is to use suitcase name tags for the party invitations. Remove the card from the tag and write the party details on it. Return the card to the luggage tag and mail them to the guests.

Retirement Community Brochure

A retirement community brochure provides a humorous invitation idea, particularly if the retiree isn't actually moving to a retirement community. Ensure that they guest of honor doesn't mind the insinuation that he is old and ready for a special community. Print the party details on a plain sticker and place it on the back of the brochure. Another option is to create your own retirement community brochures for the invitations on the computer, integrating the party details into the brochure information.

Newspaper

Create a mock newspaper to announce the retirement party. Type the details in a font that resembles newsprint text for an authentic look. Develop several headlines related to the guest of honor, including one that announces her retirement. Include all of the party details within the article body, highlighting them with a different style of font or bold print. Add a photograph of the guest of honor to the newspaper invitation.

Postcard

Select a postcard from a tropical location for the retirement party invitation, the idea being that the guest of honor is off to tropical locations now that he has retired. Purchase everyone the same postcard, or use a selection of postcards from various locations. Write the party details on the back side of the postcard where one would normally write a note. Address the postcards and mail them as usual.
