Seafood Restaurants On Oahu

Many restaurants on Hawaii's Oahu Island specialize in seafood.

It's only natural Oahu, a Hawaiian island surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, should have numerous seafood restaurants. Nor is it any surprise the restaurants should feature seafood found in local waters. What is surprising, perhaps, is the abundance of seafood from other parts of the world on the menus, including Maine lobster and Alaska king crab. Add this to my Recipe Box.

John Dominis Hawaii

John Dominis Hawaii is an upscale seafood restaurant located on Honolulu's Kewalo Basin. Established in 1979, the restaurant serves up great views of the ocean, Waikiki and Diamond Head along with its dishes. Among the appetizers is a seafood crepe made with shrimp, scallops, oysters and fresh fish, covered with sauces and cheese and baked. The restaurant's local fish offerings are two kinds of snapper, onaga and opakapaka, and mahi mahi, each of which is prepared in several ways. Diners also have a choice of Maine or Hawaiian spiny lobster. The restaurant has a sushi bar and serves Sunday brunch.

Sam Choy's Breakfast, Lunch & Crab

The fish-eating starts early at Sam Choy's Breakfast, Lunch & Crab, where one breakfast entree features the morning's catch freshly sauteed and served with two eggs. The family restaurant features a bowl of shellfish for lunch; Sam's Bowl contains steamed clams, shrimp, mussels, scallops and crab legs mixed together in a garlic wine broth. Besides local seafood, Sam Choy's serves Maine lobster, Alaska king crab, snow crab and Dungeness crab imported live from Washington State. The restaurant also has an on-site brewery. Sam Choy is host of a cooking show on local television and has appeared on Food Network shows.

Haleiwa Joe's Seafood Grill

Haleiwa Joe's Seafood Grill is located on Oahu's North Shore, with a second restaurant located in Kaneohe. The casual dining restaurant offers an appetizer called tako poke, which is octopus cooked with green onions, sesame oil and limu (an underwater plant). Dinner entrees include baked or grilled island fish, coconut shrimp and Alaska king crab. The wine list is made up primarily of California wines, with a sprinkling of Pacific Northwest and European wines.
