Luau Party Games For Teens

Leis are among the props for a luau relay race

Luau parties for teens provide entertainment any time of the year. A summer luau theme can add excitement to a backyard pool party. Winter luau parties help teens forget about the cold, dreary weather and get them focused on having fun. With a little planning, your next luau party will be a hit with teenagers. Supplies for luau party games are available at party retailers everywhere. Does this Spark an idea?

Luau Bowling

A game of coconut bowling helps emphasize the luau theme of a teen party. This bowling game is played with 10 two-liter soft drink bottles and a coconut, and is good for a basement, a concrete patio or a wooden deck. Fill the plastic bottles with a little water so that they don't get knocked over too easily. A plastic paint tarp makes a good floor protector. Let each luau party guest roll the coconut at the plastic bottle pins twice for each frame. Keep score as with traditional bowling.

Hula Hoop Contest

Hula hoop contests get teens up and active during a luau party. Buy enough hula hoops so that all party guests can participate. Hula hoops are available at party supply or discount warehouse retailers. Select some upbeat music for the contest so that participants have to work to keep the hoops moving. The person who keeps a hula hoop twirling longest is the winner. Award prizes for the first three places. Prizes like gift cards are good because they are appropriate for either boys or girls.

Luau Relay Race

A luau relay race is played by dividing the party guests into two even teams. This game can be played inside or out. Each luau relay race team has to line up behind the starting line. Place two beach bags at the relay race starting line. Fill each beach bag with a grass skirt, a pair of sunglasses, a tropical hat, a lei and a pair of flip-flops. Each relay race team member must put on all the beach gear in a bag, run to a designated point (20 or so feet away), then run back to the starting line. Each team member puts on the beach gear and runs the course. The team that completes the course first while wearing the gear wins the race.
