No Pool Water Games

Water balloons cool down a hot day.

Just because you do not have a pool doesn't mean you have to miss out on all the fun water games. If you are planning a Hawaiian- or beach-themed party, use your imagination to create water games for your party guests. From water balloon tag to water gun wars, your guests will enjoy getting wet and winning small prizes. Prize ideas for game winners include water guns, packages of water balloons and sunglasses.

Water Balloon Tag

Fill water balloons and place buckets of the balloons all over the party area. Use a rope to mark the play area, so guests know how far they can run. When you say "Go," the players can grab one balloon at a time and try to toss it at another player to tag him out. Tell the players if a balloon hits another player in the face, he is automatically out. Players hit by water balloons are out of the game. The last player standing wins the game.

Water Limbo

Have an adult spray water in a straight line using a water hose nozzle. Players must limbo underneath the water. Each time all the players make it through, lower the water line an inch or two. If a player touches the water, he is out of the game. The player who can go the lowest without touching the water wins the game.

Balloon Volleyball

Make large buckets of water balloons and make a volleyball "net" by hanging a rope from two trees or poles. Divide the players into groups of four and give each team a large beach towel. Each player has to hold a corner of the towel to serve and catch the water balloon. When a team serves the water balloon over the net, the other team must catch it in the beach towel and toss it back over. When a balloon hits the ground and breaks, the other team earns the point. The first team to 15 points wins the game.

Water Gun Wars

Fill several water guns with water. In half of the water guns, put several drops of red food coloring and in the other half, put several drops of blue food coloring. Divide the players into two teams and give each player a cheap, white T-shirt. Inexpensive shirts are available at your local craft and retail stores. Give each player a water gun and have him try to shoot the opposite team. Determine a winner by the amount of red or blue food coloring on the opposing teams. Another variation is to fill the water guns with several different food colors and have the players shoot each other for fun.
