Military Resort Vacations

Military members are entitled to use of special vacation facilities.


Military members serve their country and the majority earn a lower-than-average pay compared to people in the private sector. When vacationing, military members can receive a discount at one of five military recreational facilities. Intended for both active and retired military members, these retreats are comparable to private vacation spots. Use of such facilities is limited to active military, retired military, reserve members, guardsmen and certain levels within the Department of Defense.


Edelweiss Lodge and Resort


Edelweiss Lodge and Resort is the military vacation spot for those traveling to Germany. Located alongside the Bavarian Alps in Garmisch, this resort and conference center offers guests a chance to stay just 30 minutes outside Innsbruck. The complex offers guests a full vacation beyond guest rooms for sleeping and relaxing. The resort has three restaurants on site along with an indoor swimming pool, fitness center, game room and on-site tour coordinators. In addition to the standard guest rooms located in the main building, a limited number of villas and cabins are also available.


Dragon Hill Lodge


In the midst of Seoul, Korea lies the Dragon Hill Lodge. As part of the Armed Forces Recreation Center program, this full-service hotel provides military guests with a good value, full vacation. Six dining options along with two bars are located on-site for guests. A game room, fitness center, sauna, indoor swimming pool and racquetball court complete the offerings. Guests can add on optional tour packages to assist with sightseeing in the Seoul area. Rooms come complete with standard amenities with larger suites and in-room Jacuzzis also available on a limited basis. Hotel rates are on a sliding scale, similar to other military hotels, where guests are charged based on their pay grade level.


Hale Koa Hotel


Located on the shores of Waikiki Beach in Hawaii sits the Hale Koa Hotel. An affordable vacation for military members, this 72-acre tropical resort includes beaches, gardens and rolling pathways. Six dining options, ranging from quick service snack and coffee carts to ocean view, full-service dining is available. The nightly luau is a dinner show option for guests who want to experience the culture and cuisine of Hawaii. Guest rooms range from standard size to suites. Resort facilities include a fitness center, three swimming pools, walking paths, sand beach volleyball and a host of other outdoor and water-based activities.


Cape Henry Inn and Beach Club


The Cape Henry Inn and Beach Club is the military vacation resort on the East Coast of the United States. Located in Virginia Beach, Virginia the resort is an ideal vacation destination for military members seeking a beach vacation. Two outdoor swimming pools, a private beach within walking distance from the resort and on-site dining make this resort ideal for those opting for a vacation where everything is housed on site. Rooms range from standard size rooms to both cottages and log cabins suites for larger families.


Shades Of Green


Inside the Walt Disney World complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida resides the Shades of Green military recreation retreat. This full-service resort offers guests all the amenities typically found at Disney-owned properties, but for a reduced and sliding scale military rate. Rooms are larger than many found at Disney resorts and the on-site convenience store, restaurants, lounges, swimming pools and fitness center complete this vacation spot. Guests have the added benefit of receiving reduced rate admission tickets to Disney theme parks plus complimentary shuttle service between the hotel and all Disney attractions.
