Party Snacks For Children

If you're planning a children's party, food choice can be an important part of the event, particularly if it is a theme party, in which case your food should fit the mood. Before the event, always talk to the other children's parents to learn about any potential food allergies the children may suffer from and ask your children what food they would like so you can make them feel special. Does this Spark an idea?

Pigs in a Blanket

Finger foods are generally a good idea, because it eliminates the need for plates and forks. By wrapping hot dogs or cocktail weenies in crescent roll dough and then baking the treats, you're making a filling treat that's easy to eat on the move.

Blizzard Party Mix

This party mix is less messy because it sticks together in clumps and kids love the sweet and salty flavor combination. In a large bowl, mix corn cereal squares with pretzel twists, candy-coated chocolates, peanuts (these can be left out if any guests have allergies) and small caramel bits.

Microwave one package of white chocolate chips until all lumps are removed and then pour the chocolate over the mix and blend. Pour the mixture into a pre-greased baking pan and let sit until the chocolate is completely cool. Break into bite-sized pieces.

Taco Cups

Buy bowl-shaped tortilla chips and fill them with a small scoop of beans, a bit of ground beef, a sprinkling of cheese, a small squirt of mild salsa, a dollop of sour cream and then top it all off with an olive.

Veggie Trays

It can be tough to get kids to eat their veggies, especially at a party. But when you select some of their favorites, like cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, celery and carrots and serve them with ranch dip, hummus and cheese sauce, you'll be surprised how many kids will happily munch down on these healthy snacks.

Fizzy Punch

This punch is a refreshing drink that tickles the tongue but has no caffeine. To make it, combine two packages of unsweetened cherry drink mix, 1 cup of sugar, a can of orange juice concentrate, a large can of pineapple juice, 1/2 gallon of water and 2 liters of ginger ale or lemon lime soda. If you aren't concerned about sugar intake, a few scoops of rainbow sherbet can provide a foamy, creamy flavor addition to the mix.
