Original Kids Birthday Party Ideas

Original Kids Birthday Party Ideas

Kids get bored of the same old birthday party ideas. Some parents avoid birthday boredom by inviting kids to specially made playhouses or sending them to amusement parks. You can make your own original birthday party for your child without breaking the budget. Does this Spark an idea?

Firefighters to the Rescue!

Little kids love the excitement of a fire engine roaring by, its lights flashing and its siren blaring. Although you could buy ready-made party items with a firefighter theme, consider a more original idea. Call your local fire department and ask if they would like to participate in your child's party. Although some will charge a small fee for this, many fire departments will take part for free. The kids can have the party at the firehouse, where they can explore fire trucks, try on firefighter uniforms, and hear a demonstration about fire safety from the firefighters themselves. Hand out some fireball candies, red licorice, and a small water gun for favors; frost the cake in red or decorate it to look like a fireman's hat; and teach kids to stop, drop, and roll as an activity. Kids will love this budget-friendly birthday idea.

No-Sleep Slumber Party

If you think your child is too young for a slumber party but she thinks differently, consider a no-sleep slumber party instead. On a weekend afternoon, invite her friends over in their pajamas, encouraging them to bring pillows, sleeping bags, teddy bears, and any other sleep-related objects. Close the shades, turn down the lights, and stick glow-in-the-dark stars all over the ceiling. Kids can make smores, pop their own popcorn, and make their own vegetable-decorated pizza (along with eating birthday cake, of course). Then introduce them to several slumber party activities, such as Truth or Dare, makeovers, and facials. Give them blindfolds or pillowcases to decorate with craft supplies, including sequins, fabric paint, and buttons. Kids can even sew their own pillowcases, if they're able to.

Large Scale Scavenger Hunt

Older kids who are responsible enough to go around the neighborhood on their own will enjoy a scavenger hunt birthday party. Find different places around town that all partygoers are familiar with, such as a barber shop, a local park, a school, or a firehouse. Divide the partygoers into groups and challenge them to follow a series of "clues" (that you have created) that will lead them from one location to the next. When groups make it to the end of the hunt, they will find the party waiting for them! (Make sure that all groups have cell phones to contact you in case they get lost.)
