Make A Tiki Hut For Cheap

What better way to provide the finishing touch to a backyard garden than by building a tiki hut? A tiki hut can serve as a stylish gazebo and can also be built as a custom pergola or patio cover. It can be assembled in ways only limited to a craftsman's imagination. Built of common lumber, accented and completed with tiki hut thatching made from palm fronds, a hut is inexpensive to put together. It can even be made for temporary use for parties or functions, or for the kids.

Instructions

1. Take two of the 2-inch by 7-foot pieces of wood and lay them on the ground parallel to each other and spread those 10 feet apart, but keep the ends of the wood in line with each other. These will serve as two corners of the hut with the roof beam attaching to one end.

2. Take a third 2-inch by 10-foot piece of wood and lay it on top of the other two pieces of wood in a perpendicular manner and at the very end of the two parallel pieces of wood. Be sure that both ends of the perpendicular piece of wood are on top of, and flush with, the ends of the two parallel pieces, thus creating a rectangle or an "n" shape out of three wood beams. Attach the wood beams together using screws and a screw driver or electric drill.

3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2.

4. Take one of the 10-foot wood beams and attach one end to one of the outside corners of one of the "n" shaped wall sections with the drill and a wood screw. Attach the opposite end of the 2-inch by 10-foot to the second "n" shaped wall section made from the 2-inch by 7-foot wood beams. The 10-foot long beams will attach the two leg sections of the tiki hut made from the 7-foot long beams and act as the cross support between them. Repeat this step with the other wall section and 10-foot wood beam.

5. Stand the hut frame on its legs with the 10-foot beams that comprise the roof supports in the air.

6. Lay palm fronds across the top of the hut frame, creating the effect of a thatched roof cover.
