Making Baby Shower Invites

Making Baby Shower Invites

Workout the Basics

Discuss with the mom-to-be an appropriate date, time, theme and location for a baby shower. Choose a date and time convenient for the mom-to-be and her family. It's nearly impossible to find a date that works for everyone. Talk about baby shower themes such as a couple's shower, women's tea party or a party following the decorations in the baby's room. Pick a location agreeable for the mom-to-be such as someone's home, a parish hall or restaurant. Gather a guest list with addresses from the mom-to-be. Think about other important information for the invitations such as a phone number to RSVP and what the guests need to bring. Some baby shower games require guests to bring baby pictures or special items. Etiquette says it's OK to include registry information with invitations or you can offer it when guests call to RSVP.

Select Invitations

Selecting invitations sets the theme and mood for a baby shower. Phone calls or electronic messages indicate a casual, fun and light-hearted affair. Use these for afternoon tea parties, couples BBQ's and non-traditional baby showers. Phone calls and electronic messages can help cut down on some of the expenses. Personalized or homemade invitations sent through the mail signal a more formal and traditional celebration. Select these for brunches, evening parties and traditional baby showers. Choose the type of invitation for the baby shower you want to host.

Utilize pre-printed invitations. These come in a variety of sizes, themes, shapes and colors. Pick a color representative of the baby's gender, blue for boys and pink for girls. If the gender is a surprise, yellow and green make a good color combination. Add your own verse to personalize the invitation. Incorporate a few lines about the new baby, the gender or the mom-to-be. Try something like, "A new bundle of joy, it's going to be a boy" or "we are tickled pink and happy to say, a baby girl is on the way." Adding a few embellishments such as diaper pins, colored ribbon or die cuts of baby bottles, strollers and teddy bears dress-up your pre-printed invitations.

Make Your Own

Use pre-printed invitations as inspiration for creative, homemade invitations. Search magazines and the Internet for ideas. Imagination and creativity are unlimited when making your own baby shower invitations. Sketch a rough design and write down ideas of things you want to include. Create a catchy poem or verse for the baby shower invitation such as , "Dresses, dolls, hair and curls, (mom-to-be name) is having a girl!" Take your ideas to the card shop or craft store and search for paper and embellishments. Using the above verse, die-cuts, stickers or stamps of dresses or dolls add a nice touch to the invitation and match the verse.

Consider sketching a design by hand to use as the artwork for the invitations. Copy the sketch onto card stock and print the baby shower information on a vellum overlay. Design invitations on your computer, enhancing them with graphics and a brightly colored font. Select a font that is easy to read. Print one invitation to make sure the margins and text are correctly aligned. Fix any errors and repeat until the invitation meets your approval. Print the remaining invitations.
