Making Wedding Invitations

Your wedding invitation should follow the theme and feel of the event.

A wedding invitation does more than welcome guests to your big day; it also shares the first glimpse of the theme and feel of the festivities to come. When it comes to creating these invitations, some brides and grooms opt to add their own personal touches and make them on their own. Designing your own wedding invitations allows you to create the exact flair you want from your card.

1. Decide what kind of theme or colors you want for your wedding. The invitations you make will be the first taste guests receive of what's to come and should carry this feel. A theme can focus on anything, from flowers to country music to superheroes, or any color combination, such as black, white and red.

2. Choose the paper you want to use for your wedding invitation. Craft stores offer decorative paper in hundreds of colors and designs. When looking at sizes, make sure your invitation will be able to fit in an envelope. Also, consider using blank pre-folded cards. These often come with envelopes and can be easily decorated.

3. Compose the message you want to convey with your wedding invitation. This should include the basic information that attendees will need to know, including the names of the people getting married, where the ceremony and reception will be and at what time. This information can be presented in a formal format or a more casual one; again, it should coincide with the theme of your wedding.

4. Put the message on the invitation. You can do this in a variety of ways, such as designing it on a computer and printing it right on the paper. You may also opt to write the message by hand. Consider buying a custom-made rubber stamp, which you can ink on to each invitation.

5. Decorate your wedding invitation with rubber stamps, stickers, dried flowers or even sparkles. Consider tying a ribbon around the invitation, or use a hole punch to create unique see-through shapes.
