The Best Honeymoon Resorts In Maui

Maui is truly paradise on earth. A temperate climate year-round, warm tropical breezes and some of the world's most beautiful beaches make it a much-sought-after destination. If couples are lucky enough to honeymoon in Maui, finding a romantic resort in the three most desirable regions of the island is an easy task.

West Maui

Centered around the bustling resort town of Lahaina, this section of the island is about 20 minutes from the Kahului Airport and boasts some of the world's best beaches.

A little bit outside of Lahaina lies the majestic Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua. This resort features everything a newly married couple could desire. Frommer's put it succinctly when they state, "This Ritz is a complete universe, one of those resorts where you can happily sit by the ocean with a book for two whole weeks and never leave the grounds." The resort completed a $180 million dollar renovation in 2008 making an already luxurious location even more desirable. The resort boasts a new 17,500 square foot spa, a fitness center and yoga studio, four restaurants, four bars, three golf courses and a 10,000 square foot, tri-level swimming pool. The resort has its own private white sand beach where the newly married can participate in a myriad of ocean activities or simply lounge by the shore. It is easy to understand why this resort holds a AAA Five Diamond Rating--a yearly rating where 58,000 establishments are evaluated but only .28 percent receive the full five stars.

South Side

About 20 minutes from the airport, this part of the island boasts some of the world's most luxurious hotels and spas. Less crowded than western Maui, this section includes the upscale area of Wailea, beautiful beaches and amazing sunsets.

In the heart of Wailea lies the Four Seasons Resort, Maui at Wailea. Many celebrities can be seen frolicking by the shores of this first rate accommodation and with good reason. The resort holds a prestigious AAA Five Diamond rating as well. Fodor's describes the resort as "the most low-key elegance on Maui; known for exceptional service." Fronting a perfect white sand beach with plenty of water activities like scuba and snorkeling, this resort has it all for honeymooners of all kinds. Featuring a spa, Wolfgang Puck's Spago restaurant (AAA Four Diamond restaurant), a fitness center, an adults-only infinity pool, and coveted luxury poolside and oceanfront cabanas, this resort leaves no detail unmet.

Hana

Most visitors to Maui travel the world-famous "Road to Hana." This trek will take them on a windy and wild three-hour car ride to the rustic town of Hana. Along the way, they will see incredible natural scenery, including waterfalls and rain forests.

Once in Hana, a stop at the AAA Four Diamond rated Hotel Hana-Maui is warranted. There are no TVs or air conditioning in any of the upscale guest cottages at this resort but that is part of its rustic charm. Cool ocean breezes keep rooms properly chilled as this resort overlooks a sprawling view of the ocean. The hotel was built in 1946 and the resort features restored cottages styled in traditional Hawaiian décor. Frommer's says "This is the atmosphere, the landscape, and the culture of old Hawaii set in 21st-century accommodations." Amenities include a restaurant and bar; a spa; a private lounge, changing facilities, umbrellas, and lounge chairs at the world-famous Hamoa Beach; outdoor pool and hot tub; two tennis courts and Hawaiian activities, such as lei-making and hula lessons.
