All of Hawaii's major islands feature family-friendly resort properties.
Hawaii is a favorite tropical paradise that's drawn honeymooners for many years. Since the early 1990s, it has also become one of the top family travel destinations. Hawaii's family-friendly resorts are continuously expanding on their available activities, amenities and play-and-stay packages. You'll find a variety of family resorts in Hawaii that allow children to stay free, in addition to providing babysitting services and children's programs as part of the resort package.
Grand Wailea Resort
An oceanfront resort located on the south shores of Maui, the Grand Wailea boasts a sprawling 40 acres of property. On-site you'll find a 728-room and 52-suite hotel, six restaurants, a theme park, art museum and day spa. Families will appreciate the resort's kid-friendly areas like the Canyon Activity Pool, the toddler's wading pool, and a three-story elevator that leads to a drenching waterslide. Visitors will even find a Tarzan-themed rope swing above the resort's largest swimming pool, plus waterfalls and caves to swim through. Camp Grande is a year-round children's program open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (as of fall 2010). It features a gaming room, movie theater and a full-size soda fountain. At Grand Wailea Resort, kids under the age of 17 always stay free.
Kona Village Resort
Kona Village Resort was one of the first Kohala Coast resorts ever constructed. It's also one of the few all-inclusive Hawaiian resorts where the daily room rate covers all meals, family activities and excursions. This 125-unit resort sits on the grounds of an ancient fishing village and features thatched huts, a private bay area and a scenic boardwalk where you'll find Hawaiian petroglyphs. The children's program for 6- to 12-year-olds features activities like fishing and arts and crafts. The teenagers' program offers sailing lessons or participation in volleyball and softball games. All family members can swim along Kona Village's private beach, which is also a wildlife area for green sea turtles. All toddlers' ages two and under stay free at this resort.
Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort
The island of Oahu is still the most popular destination in Hawaii as it is home to more attractions, shopping and dining establishments than any other island. It also offers some of the best resorts, including the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Called a "mega-resort, where Disneyland meets Polynesia" by the Fodor's website, this family-friendly Hilton village is situated on 22 acres of wide beachfront along Waikiki. The total resort property spans 62 acres, with six looming tower hotels, lush, tropical gardens, a 5-acre dolphin lagoon and its very own pier and operational submarine. You'll find countless swimming pools for all ages, as well as a variety of wildlife roaming free on the property. Hilton offers year-round kids' programs for several age groups, which include both educational and entertaining activities.
