Take a cue from tropical fish when choosing an under-the-sea theme party color scheme.

Treat an ocean-loving friend or loved one to an under-the-sea theme party. The whimsical theme is ideal for birthday bashes, bridal or baby showers or wedding receptions, among other special events. When decorating the ocean-themed party, use vibrant, tropical colors, sea creature decorations and other natural elements as your creative inspiration. Does this Spark an idea?

Sea-Inspired Invitations

Give party guests a taste of what is in store with charming sea-inspired invitations. Roll an invitation and place it into a plastic screw-top bottle to create a "message in a bottle." Place a self-adhesive mailing label and postage on the bottle prior to sending it to guests. As a simple but eye-catching invitation, create cards out of vibrantly hued turquoise and yellow construction paper and decorate them with sea-inspired stickers featuring seahorses, seashells, starfish and tropical fish designs. For creative invitations, thoroughly wash and dry large seashells and write the party details on the insides using a permanent marker; send the seashell invitations to guests in padded envelopes.

Sea-Theme Decor

Transport party-goers to an under-the-sea world using theme decor items. Rent or buy a bubble machine to send bubbles floating across the party space to set a watery ambiance. As a charming table centerpiece, fill a treasure-chest-inspired wooden box with goodies such as chocolate gold coins, strings of plastic pearls and candy rings and necklaces. Allow the kids to take the treats home as party favors. Hang plastic tropical fish via fishing line from the ceiling, or make the designs using vibrantly hued construction paper or card stock. Fill a large clear glass jar with seashells to decorate a table and have guests guess how amn shell are inside the jar as a party activity.

Tropical Treats

Round out the under-the-sea party theme by serving a variety of tropical treats. The eye-catching taste sensations can also serve as table decor. Make fish-shaped sugar cookies using a cutter and top them with bright frosting. Fill small sand pails with gummy sharks, Swedish fish and tropical-hued gumballs and place one by each guests' place setting. Make a "sea water" punch by tinting apple or white grape juice with a bit of blue food coloring. As a healthy snack, side dish or snack, make a tropical fruit salad consisting of pineapple, mango and papaya. Cut peanut butter and jelly, ham and cheese and tuna salad sandwiches into fish shapes using a cookie cutter.
