Tropical Wedding Games

Tropical Wedding Games

Tropical wedding receptions are typically affairs that revolve around a beach or island theme, complete with ambient tiki torches and island flower arrangements. There are several amusing games that guests can play at tropical wedding receptions. These games focus on tropical drinks, island getaways and hula dancing complete with grass skirts.

Tropical Destination

Weddings receptions are a chance to have fun and celebrate the bride and groom. A great way to do this is to play tropical destination. Provide all of the tables at the reception with a picture postcard of a tropical destination such as Hawaii or Jamaica. Then, have each table, as a group, write a short paragraph on the back of the postcard about what the bride and groom would do if given the opportunity to spend $10,000 on a tropical dream trip; encourage the guests to have fun when writing the paragraph. Then, have the bride and groom collect the postcards and read them aloud. This will give the bride and groom lasting memories to take home with them in the form of a souvenir postcard.

Guess The Tropical Drink

This is an interesting way for wedding guests to use their tropical drink knowledge while having a good time. Have all the guests sit down at their table. Provide each table with six tropical-flavored drinks of all different ingredients such as a tequila sunrise, sex on the beach, Long Island iced tea, Malibu bay breeze, mai tai and mojito. Then, give each table a pen and paper, and have the guests guess as a group what each drink is in an allotted amount of time such as 10 minutes. After the time is up, have the bride and groom stand at the front of the room and ask each table their answers. The table with the most correct drink names is the winner, and each person at the winning table gets a tropical prize- flowered leis distributed by the bride and groom.

Hula Dancing Contest

Bring out six grass skirts, coconut bras and white veils. Ask all the attendees to stand up and form a circle. Ask for six volunteers, men and women, to participate by putting on a hula skirt, bra and veil and to stand in the middle of the circle. After all the volunteers have been properly dressed, play luau music, and ask the individuals in the middle of the circle to do their best hula dance. Encourage the rest of the guests surrounding the circle to clap and cheer. Stop the music after five minutes. Have the bride and groom gauge the winner by pointing to each dancer and asking the guests to applaud for their favorite dancer. The person receiving the loudest applause wins the contest and gets crowned, "Hula Dancing Champion" and gets one special hula dance with the bride and groom. The hula dancing contest should be the last game of the night, when guests have had a chance to loosen up and become comfortable.
