Luau Bulletin Board Ideas For School

Bulletin board ideas for a luau theme should include leis, palm trees and surfboards.

To give a bulletin board the full effect of a luau theme, bright colors, surfboards, tropical scenery, sunshine and bamboo are necessary. Children may enjoy the beautiful colors and the summertime feel to the luau theme as well as the flowers, decorative art and palm trees. They will especially love it if they get to help decorate.

Background

Purchase bright-colored construction paper like yellow or orange as well as aqua-colored construction paper. Put the bright-colored construction paper on the top and the aqua-colored paper on the bottom of the bulletin board to represent the ocean surrounding the Hawaiian Islands. A small strip of sandy beige construction paper could go along the bottom of the bulletin board to represent the sand.

Borders

Use actual leis to decorate the border of the bulletin board. Cut each flower off of the lei necklace and paste the flowers one by one around the border of the bulletin board. Another option is to cut the leis apart so that it's a long line of leis string. Staple the leis to the bulletin board and straighten it out all the way. Then staple that side to the bulletin board. A few leis may be needed for this project. Picture borders of leis or palm trees could also be used.

Wording

The wording on the bulletin board should consist of Hawaiian phrases such as "Gone Surfing" or "Aloha." Big bubbly letters in the colors of pink, orange or yellow are appealing to the eye. The bulletin board could also have several other Hawaiian phrases scattered around the board, such as "hang ten" and "mahalo," which means "thank you" in the Hawaiian language.

Pictures

To complete the luau-themed bulletin, paste pictures of surfboards in the ocean, palm trees in the sand and a sun in the sky. Traditional Hawaiian statues such as tikis and reefs can also be used to decorate the bulletin board.
