Preschool Graduation Cake Ideas

Preschool Graduation Cake Ideas

The transition from preschool to elementary school is important for students and parents. A preschool graduation ceremony is a fun way to celebrate. No graduation is complete without a cake. Fun preschool graduation cakes make the kids smile and add to the festivities. With basic cake-decorating skills, you can create a preschool graduation cake for any group.

Picture Book

A book-shaped cake pan forms the base of a graduation cake for preschool. There are several decoration possibilities for the book-shaped cake. One simple idea is to model it after a favorite preschool picture book. Either fondant or buttercream frosting works well to recreate a scene from a picture book. You can also use a round icing tip to pipe some of the words from the story. Another option for a book cake is to include the names of the students and make a face to represent each one of the preschool graduates.

Graduation Cap Cupcakes

Cupcakes are the perfect size for preschoolers. They also work well to create miniature graduation caps as the dessert for the ceremony. For each graduation hat cupcake, you'll need the cupcake, a graham cracker square, tinted frosting, a licorice rope and an M&M candy. The cupcake and graham cracker are iced with the tinted frosting, with the graham cracker going on top of the cupcake. The licorice rope creates the tassel and the M&M represents the button on top of the graduation cap.

School Bus

A school bus symbolizes the transition to elementary school. A large sheet cake serves as the base for the school bus. You can make a school bus template from thin cardboard to use as a guide to cut the cake into the bus shape. Simply lay the template on top of the cake and cut around it with a sharp knife. Once the excess cake is removed, you can add a layer of yellow frosting. Fondant works well to create little rectangle windows for the bus. The final touch is to pipe lettering on the side of the bus. You can include the name of the elementary school the preschoolers will attend, a congratulations message or the name of the preschool.

ABCs & 123s

The alphabet and numbers fit the preschool graduation theme. Any size or shape cake works well with the ABC and 123 theme. After icing the cake and adding a decorative border, pipe on the letters of the alphabet or numbers. You can also use cookie cutters to cut out the letters and numbers from fondant. The fondant cutouts go on top of the icing to complete the cake design.
