Luau Snack Ideas

Prepare some tasty snacks for your Hawaiian luau event.

The luau is a traditional Hawaiian celebration that is centered around food. If you are having a luau themed party, be sure you have the proper menu lined up for a true Hawaiian experience. Even if you aren't familiar with Pacific island cuisine, you can make snacks for your party that will be an authentic addition to your luau event. Does this Spark an idea?

Kalua Pig

Kalua pig is a pork dish traditionally served at Hawaiian luaus. This delicious, juicy and tender meat makes for a popular main dish or snack that all pork lovers will enjoy. Buy pulled and shredded pork or prepare your own pork using a crock pot and a pork butt slow cooked until it is fall-off-the-bone tender. After it's done, pile it on the plate for a hot luau snack.

Lomi Salmon

Lomi salmon is another traditional luau dish that you can serve at your event. Make this cold seafood salad by combining diced tomatoes, onions, green onions and salmon together and spooning onto the plate as a side to your kalua pork. Cure the salmon by covering it in Hawaiian salt and refrigerating for 24 hours to pull out all the water. Season the salmon with macadamia nut oil, black pepper, pineapple juice and lime juice for a traditional Hawaiian snack.

Hawaiian Pizza

Make Hawaiian pizzas by adding regular pizza sauce to a prepared crust and layering slices of Canadian bacon, pineapple and mozzarella cheese on top. Bake the pizza like you would any other pizza, until the cheese is melted and bubbly and serve up slices that are sure to be a hit with the kids and adults as well.

Pineapple Boat

Make fancy snacks by cutting fresh whole pineapples into pineapple boats. Cut the stem off the pineapple and then slice it lengthwise in half, then cut it into quarters. This will leave you with four wedge-shaped pieces of pineapple. With a sharp knife, carefully cut from one end of the pineapple to the other along the rind to separate the meaty part of the pulp from the outer skin. Leave the edible portion loose and then slice it in thin strips. Stick toothpicks into each slice so your guests can pick them up easily.
