Lobster Craft Ideas

Kids can fashion crafts after ocean lobsters.

If your family is anticipating an upcoming ocean vacation, celebrate the occasion by making lobster-inspired crafts with your children. Kids can also create the whimsical crafts after a trip to the beach, or as ocean-themed birthday party activities. Handmade lobster crafts also make playful beach-inspired party decor and favors.

Paper Lobster

Young children can make lobster crafts using card stock or a paper plate. Cut a lobster's body and two claws out of red card stock, or paint a plain, white paper plate red and use that instead. Punch a hole in each side of the lobster's upper body portion, and at the bottom of each claw. Attach the claws with metal paper fasteners so that kids can move them back and forth. Glue on two plastic googly eyes and two red pipe cleaner antennae.

Lobster-Shaped Cookies

Use lobster cookie crafts as ocean-themed party desserts or favors. To create the treats, make sugar cookie dough and form it into lobster shapes using a cookie cutter. Set out bowls of toppings, such as red icing and sprinkles, black decorator's gel and various small candies, and let kids get creative with the baked goods.

Lobster Puppet

Create a playful lobster puppet using a paper lunch bag and a few craft items. Start by cutting a square piece of red construction paper and gluing it to the front of the unfolded, upside-down bag as the lobster's body. Create a mouth shape and two claws out of the red paper and glue them to the paper bag. For a whimsical look, glue two large plastic googly eyes to the tops of two red pipe cleaners, and tape them to the top of the bag.

Printed Lobster

Get a preschooler involved in a creative hand and footprint lobster craft activity. Cover the bottom of the child's foot with non-toxic red craft paint using a paintbrush. Have the child step onto a piece of white construction paper with his toes pointing down. Paint two red arms extending out of the top of the heel prints. Cover the child's hands with the paint and instruct them to press them onto the top of the lobster's arms to create claws. Finish the project by using black paint to create stripes on the lobster's body and two eyes.
