Luau & Tropical Invitations

The invitation sets the tone for a tropical party, be it a party in the backyard or on the beaches of Hawaii. The appearance of the invitation could affect a person's decision to attend your party or another's. Does this Spark an idea?

Message in a Bottle

Laura McFadden and April Paffrath's book (see References) suggests making invitations using bottles, sand, shells and a rolled-up invitation. You can easily create this invitation by adding a few beads and shells in a bottle, inserting the invitation and tying the bottle neck with embroidery floss.

Leis

You can mail flower leis, either real or fake, to friends with a short invitation attached to it on colorful card stock. Shell necklaces are suitable alternatives and might be cheaper.

Digital Invitations

Emailed invitations might not be as personal, but can be more creative. You can also mail humorous videos made with friends on the beach as attachments. Using a funny clip from a tropical-themed movie is another option.

Ribbons and Shells

Raffia ribbons tied around invitations add a tropical, casual feel to invitations. You can glue or tie shells onto the ribbon. A larger envelope or box will be required to fit these invitations.

Bright Paper and Stickers

A child's tropical party or luau invitations should include several tropical stickers like pineapples and coconuts. Type the invitation on lime green, yellow or blue paper.
